You can also qualify for a working visa if you can prove at least 3 years experience in a related field.
Depending on the type of work visa, it may also be 10 years of experience.

No, the 3 month time frame does NOT fit the pattern for a working holiday visa. WHV takes 2 weeks to get.

You haven't ever applied for a WHV yourself I believe, Glenski. Maybe in theory it takes 2 weeks. I first came to Japan on a WHV and I recall the process taking considerably longer. Maybe that's just New Zealand. In any case, I think expecting to have everything sorted out for the WHV in 2 weeks would be very optimistic.

It seems it may be a different visa though, so possibly irrelevant.

True, I'm American.

That's what a few foreign offices told me, and that's what many people report on this and other forums.

As you said, perhaps it's country-dependent.

Australia says:
The processing time may vary with the diplomatic mission at which the application is submitted.

Canada says:
* Processing time of visa application:
* Minimum of 3 working days to one week

UK says:
Nothing

New Zealand says:
Nothing

Korea says:
Everything in Korean. Can't read it.

Germany says:
Mit einer Vorlaufzeit von 2 Wochen ist zu rechnen.
On a lead time by 2 weeks is to be counted.

Ireland says:
Nothing.

France says:
Everything in French. Can't read/find it.

Denmark says:
Nothing.

The Japanese site says:
Application must be made at least three weeks before the anticipated departure date.

Very much location/time of the year-dependent I would say. I applied for my WHV at the small Japan Consulate in Auckland at a time when every other university student/graduate who wanted to go to Japan for their summer holidays was also applying. It takes some time to put together the paperwork, and then the processing took ages- I remember being concerned that the visa wouldn't arrive in time for my departure date, even though I had applied around 2 months ahead of that date.

Maybe I was just unlucky, maybe things are faster now since that was 1995.

However a blanket time frame of two weeks is probably not going to apply in many cases.
