Geos & Nova are belly up. But NEVER did they offer 350,000 Y/mo. for starting salaries

Oops - I meant 'they' to refer to JET - sorry. I'm going too fast when I write these things. So, is my faded memory right when I think I recall that JET starts around 350K, and Geos/Nova etc. offered only minimum salary at 250K?

Sure, I've heard(if Dave's is any guide)that NETs generally are pleased w/their salaries/benefits but there's a lot of dissatisfaction w/school admin., workloads, etc. Or so it seems.

That's pretty much right. When NETs complain, it's usually workload not money.

And yes, the application process is long-winded. For me - I was in Hong Kong teaching anyway throughout the application process, so there was no urgency. From start to finish it took over a year.

Now I'm in the job, I've got nice kids and nice colleagues to work with. All good so far...

JETs make 300K/mo. but get other goodies that most FTs in Japan don't get.

The market has gone to such rat**** in the last decade that many non-JET employers are offering less than 250K. In some cases, considerably less. And yet there seems to be no shortage of barbarians willing to take such contracts. Incredible, really.

I find it incredible that you are working as an EdB NET but do not know what the current special allowance is. Laughing

Well you got me... I suppose I should have checked but I just said from (my obviously poor) memory. Go on, tell me, I have a lot of paper shuffling to do to find out for myself.

I often find it incredible that I'm working as an EdB NET too. Embarassed

Paper shuffling? Confused

You may well be the only person in the NET Scheme that isn't aware of their pay package. Not my business, of course, but I find it odd.

Cool

Hi SF, if I may assume you're lighthearted winding me up Razz ... I know what I get each month in total. I forgot the division of salary/allowance, since salary went up a couple of times and allowance once. That's all. It's written down somewhere - I just couldn't really be bothered to check.Crying or Very sad

If I am losing credibilty with you, then my humblest apologies and another smiley face Very Happy

If you're implying that I may not really be a NET because I can't remember the money, then I take back the smiley faces

Disgraceful behaviour it is too...

Me neither. I just got my gratuity calculated today and was asked to confirm it's right. I didn't have a clue, but the final figure certainly gave me a smiley face. Did give me the opportunity to see that the special allowance is 14.something. See? I've forgotten the detail already.
