I have read all his work too and do not care about whether he was gay but I do care about honesty.
"wide shoulders
tapering to slender supple waists, and small pronounced buttocks and
sinewy thighs, with not an ounce of waste flesh anywhere." Orwell |

Dear doner,
If you can't understand why the term "in the closet" was invented, I suggest you read a biography of Oscar Wilde.
But all this is ridiculous. There is absolutely NO documented evidence that Orwell WAS gay. It's entirely your own opinion, unsupported by any proof.
And if you actually regard THIS as "proof" that he was gay:
" . . wide shoulders tapering to slender supple waists, and small pronounced buttocks and sinewy thighs, with not an ounce of waste flesh anywhere. . "
well, you have my deepest sympathy.
Regards,
John |

But , Doner, do not all world literature contain such descriptions of great heroes and don't we all draw inspiration to have better bodies, muscles, so on? Would you have been less offended had Orwell expressed it in marble? |

| You claim to have read all his work yet you clearly have not read this one since the "great heroes" are not great heroes but coal miners. |

Dear doner,
I'm afraid you're mixed up - WMTN did not "claim to have read all of his work" - I did (and, by the way, I have.)

Do you mean the Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne? |

| And, if the Chinese, with the largest supposedly mining population, decide to chip in, you are done. |

Dear doner,
Maybe this one, in NSW:
"1980s
The public lavatory near the Bogey Hole remained a popular meeting place for gay men.
1995
Newcastle Council accepted an offer of $300,000 for stabilisation of the Shortland Esplanade cliff.
1997
The Newcastle Bogey Hole gained a cyberspace presence. A Newcastle arts and media collective known as the Pod gained support from the Bicentenary Events Committee (BEC) to create a virtual Newcastle website (http://evolver.loud.org.au/vn) that allowed viewers to explore the city, walk along Newcastle Beach and take a virtual dip in the Bogey Hole."

| No doubt Orwell would not have been so enamoured with Chinese miners as I doubt they have "wide shoulders," Are they fond of reading Orwell along with people in Newcastle? |

My respect for British honorifics is on the wane and, so are my spelling skills.

And I suppose the Worshipful Mayor will be master of ceremonies. Upon Tyne, of course. |

Dear doner,
Never, never generalize:
"Grabbing the headlines are the two rookies in the division. Sokokurai, a 25 year-old who fights from the Arashio-beya, becomes just the second Chinese rikishi to be promoted to sumo wrestler sekitori status following Kiyonohana, who was promoted 35 years ago."
I'll bet THEIR shoulders are pretty wide.
OK, they're not coal miners, But these guys are.
