I say! What a lot of nonsense is being spoken about Fluo! I'm new to this forum, but am nearly a year into my contract here in Makassar - and can honestly say that, firstly, Fluo Institute is a professionally run school - so let's put that issue to bed - and secondly, Makassar is populated by some of the friendliest and most accommodating souls you could wish to meet (unless, of course, you're an away supporter at a PSM home game!). Ok, i doubt whether one would spend time writing home about the city itself (have you ever been to Birmingham?), but Sulawesi aint all Makassar!
Jon, I look forward to seeing you in the new year Very Happy

AndyQ, your time in Makassar means you have a much greater understanding of the situation there than I do.

Why, in your opinion, would a teacher want to move on after less than two months?

@ AndyQ: relax, no one said anything critical about FLUO or the management. i think people were writing about geoboz's sudden about face on his wonderful praises for an institution and his sudden departure less than 2 months later. People would like an explanation..... is the issue with the school or geoboz. but i think if people take the time to read his other rantings/posts, it will seem more likely that the problem lies with geoboz, not the school. even his posts here were rather aggressive and lacking in coherence.

your sunny post is in stark contrast the the majority of other posts where u had problems with china, algeria, and mexico. it will be interesting to read a post after u have been there for 6 months to a year

shame he didnt make it that far. but at least he conducted himself as a gentlemen in regards to the school and didnt write a scathing report about them.

I'm not sure I can speak for someone else as to their reasons for leaving (or anything else for that matter).... but I can speculate - as a former EF school, Fluo has carried on the tradition of EF wages, you're not going to earn big money here. However, the housing is free and if you immerse yourself in the city a bit then you quickly find out the cheaper alternatives to shopping in supermarkets and malls (i didnt come to Indonesia to spend time in an air conditioned mall, thats for sure). Plus I've managed to travel around Sulawesi (by air and road), fly to Timor and visit Rote, and am heading to Manado for christmas, so i'm not exactly living in poverty!

Malu, I cannot fathom why you are so persistent in finding out why a teacher has left his post. Who cares? Get a life! You are the one who wimped out of China, limping like a wounded canine.

I hated China. 10 months there was enough for a lifetime. But I include that misadventure on my CV. If you look through my old posts you'll find my reasons for hating the place clearly stated. Geoboz lasted a few weeks in China and, strangely, that period of his life doesn't appear on his CV. His claim to having spent three years in Indonesia earlier in this thread is a blatant untruth, too. I could go on. If a school was dodgy we'd post it on here as a warning to others. What's wrong with giving a heads up on dodgy teachers?

thanks andyQ. he knew the wages before he agreed to the job so that would be a poor reason to break a contract. glad to hear that u are enjoying teaching at that school and living there.
