There is no employment now. That is the status. Hopefully, I can find a job soon and legally be hired by a school with reasonable hours.
Thanks to those who have voiced their opinions and given appropriate feedback. |

And you won't. God knows I tried to get a straight answer. No patience left in me to try any more. |

in the end does it matter? how a country treats it's guest workers and immigrant workers says a lot about a culture and a country. legal status
shouldn't matter. maybe that only applies to developed countries?
In my own country the growing trend is to give these workers (legal/illegal) the same rights (not only labour) as citizens. I disagree with that myself but in the context of this thread that doesn't matter.
your posts constantly disparaging the FT in China sound very similar to someone else we are all familiar with. |

Ok, I am guilty for trying to find a school I can be happy working at. You figured me out.
Now, can we get back to the intent of the thread? |

Then, from where I am sitting, it would appear that you are in a pretty strong position to do what you want. No contract and no 'z' visa means no requirement for a release letter/recommendation. Instead of arguing the toss with this 'training centre' who are acting just as illegally as you, would your time not be better spent trying to find a legitimate and fair employer? Presumably you are already in China which can be a help.
Just say that you have come here for travel and you like the place so much that you want to stay!
All that you need to do is get the invitation letter and troddle off to some offshore location, apply for the new visa then return. BINGO! You can start afresh from scratch with fully legitimate employment. All of this assumes that you are suitably qualified to get a 'z' visa, of course!
To be honest, from my experience of China, trying to get outstanding payment and benefits from such a school usually ends up in failure. Sometimes you have to just cut the losses and get on with life. Which is the very reason that it is a good idea not to take teaching positions in China without the correct documentation. You just ask to be abused! |

| Accepting personal responsibility is the whole point here - the concept of working legally and so on. |
My options are:
1) stay with the school who hasn't shown any signs of honoring agreements
2) get out, find a new school, and make sure the terms are better
What exactly do you want to see happen here? I feel I am doing the next logical step. |
