Only men?
Only ESL? Could be teaching in general but booze has never been my demon vice. I'm a chocolate fiend and can also get a bit nasty without my coffee in the morning (as opposed to my normal sweet self). But that probably doesn't count for much on the truly degenerate frontlines. |

Does ESL teaching cause alcoholism?
No, but it helps. |

IMO, I think it depends on the actual person. Some people are/were heavy drinkers anyway and just take advantage of that when in another country.
I drink more now, but not much worth talking about, and I've still never experienced being "drunk". I'm a casual drinker, though. Since I don't drive here, that's the only reason that I've had more drinks like if invited out to a dinner or whatever compared to back home. Back home I drove pretty much all the time and always had to drive others around, so it was rare I ever drank any kind of alcohol.
So yeah, I really do feel it depends on the person. I may get stressed or annoyed over something pertaining to work, but never to the point of wasting the money on alcohol to relieve it. That's what music, video games, and reading are for (well, that's what works for me). |
