FYI all I had was a bachelors degree in Economics and one year experience from Korea that was 7 years ago and I landed a job here in KSA albeit after about sending 70 emails/applications. I also had a $190 dollar online TEFL certificate to help beef up my resume LOL. Sooooo my advice to you is def dont put 3-4 grand on a credit card just in hopes of getting a better job. Keep in mind that I worked in Madinah at the University there and some of my colleagues had Celta's, masters degree and even one guy had a PhD from California BUT we were all making about the same money. Now, 6 months later, I am making more money than all of them and I still have my silly online TEFL for $200. Anyway, what I am trying to say is save your money.
If you do not have any sort of TEFL certificate I would advise you to get something because it will make it easier for you to land a job, unless you have a masters in education or something that carries weight in these Gulf countries.
Your best bets are Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam for landing a job. With two years experience you should have no trouble so just be patient and let me know if you have any Q's. Below is a video a couple of teachers and I shot in Dammam.

1. Do you recommend that I take out another credit card and put the 3-4 grand on it to get better job offers?
2. What are my chances of getting good work in Saudi or Oman without a CELTA? Would one of those online degrees help?
3. What's the best place for a 25 year-old with only 2 years experience to land a job? I don't really want to go back to Korea and the rest of Asia/Europe doesn't pay enough (Lots of credit debt and college loans). Don't get me wrong though, I've always been extremely fascinated with the middle east and it sounds like fun!
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
