Be warned, G22 consistently posts misleading information and has it out for IH (probably because they refused to hire him).

This issue has already been addressed in another thread, where myself and another poster confirm that IH reducing pay for employees with work visas is completely untrue. To see that discussion: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?p=930229&highlight=#930229

Uncalled for. This is absolutely true IH will in fact reduce your pay if you choose to get a work visa from them. Not only that, they are often late with the pay. But don't take my word for it, go work for them see what happens.
Also be advised that windowlicker is likely an employee of some sort at IH, possibly the director.

Anyone know of Habla Ingles and Petersons? I recently saw some advertisements around and was wondering what they are like?

Habla Ingles is very trustworthy. They pay 20.000 cop an hour and they always pay on time. The only problem with them is that they are so small that they get limited contracts and you don't get very many hours each week.

I currently live in Bogot and work for both International House and Verve Bogot

The bottom line is they both pay you what they say they will, on time.

The frustrating thing about Bogot is that it's a huge city, and traffic can be a nightmare. So to travel to a class, you may have to be in a bus for more than an hour.

This is a frustration that nearly all English teachers have, and you should just know before hand that getting a job with either of these companies means alot of travel.

International House Bogot right now is in a bit of a reorganization. Their biggest client used to be within the city, but is now moving out of the city, so that teachers have to leave at 3:30 to teach a class from 5-7pm, and then only get back at 9PM.

Here's some more detailed info on various Bogot english institutes http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=88410

I got to Colombia last fall but after doing the rounds of Medellin and Bogota I decided the market was just too large to work exclusively with one company. So I found a couple of education brokers who find me private students -- all of them are well educated and motivated, so they're a pleasure to teach. Also, I wanted to keep control of my own schedule.

Anyway PM me if you want details.

Should be pretty clear from my post history this is not the case.

IH certainly has problems, in fact, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the people G22 is referring to who worked for IH and quit. It was mostly because I had issues getting to the 6 AM class from where I lived and couldn't really handle that type of schedule. Now I work for verve which suits me better for a few reasons, one is that the ceiling for money is much higher, and I would like to save some money before I leave. The other is that I get to sleep about an hour later than I did to go to IH, which does worlds for my health. However, working for IH is as secure as it gets in Bogota as far as work visas, getting paid on time, and overall professionalism. If you can get a job for IH (which G22 cannot without a CELTA) and you are looking for a stable job, it is as good as you'll find.

I'll say it again- I worked for IH and quit. I didn't like it. I'm about as likely a person as any to complain about them on these boards, but I also know a lot more about them than G22 does, and he has been wrong on all his info about IH. Still love ya, Chris, but you're just not right on this one buddy. Wink

Ive been living in Colombia off and on for the last 5 years or so, I have worked for Ingles Bogota. I had no degree or certificate, So its easy to get into. You will have to know how to get around the city though, as they had me out to 3 or 4 different locations per day. Also, dont always expect to get paid on time lol.

IH has Never been late with my pay -- And I have worked for them (and still do) for over a year.

They set me up with a visa and paid all fees (including my tourist visa). They renewed it in September.
My pay was not effected by having them sponsor my visa.

If you leave before your visa runs out -- They will charge you a pro-rated fee.

As for the other schools listed -- I know someone who works for Petersens and they helped him get a visa.

Things have been a little slow the last 2 months with IH so I worked for the following:

Verve for $48 mil for a 90 min class - Also a friend of mine works there.
Bogota Business English (BBE) for 37.5 mill for a 90 min class
I think Petersens pays like 20 mil/ hour (I interviewed with them)

Best of Luck Cool
