This is a pretty interesting thread as it illustrates the situation on mainland.

Assuming your speaking of a business owner or manager, it would be their position to recognize their market and control the variables in that market. |
In this case, the assumption is correct, although it stops short of providing the actual reasons for recognizing/controlling the variables in the market.

| these kind of agreements are normal operating procedures and should not be accepted, but once you sign on the dotted line, it is your agreement as well as managements and complaining bout something your complicit in is not as beneficial as simply a non-acceptance of terms you feel are unfair. Although it is common in China to go back on agreements, FTs should honor agreements or refrain from participating. |
Is this about a norm, being complicit or some poor terms and conditions around? Is this message trying to tell all that there are many other options on mainland? |

I would choose other options and if an applicant has come to the conclusion that they want to be in china for some time, the avoidance of this kind of clause would be the only way to proceed. If this is a one trick pony, and the applicant will be leaving at the end of a contract, then it is not consequential.
Really, if you have painted yourself into a corner then you will never be able to leave the room without tracking a little paint unless your willing to wait it out. |

| Do FTs really "paint themselves" or are they painted into corners? Then, how long do FTs really have to "wait it out" when in the country? |

| I was really just addressing your particular situation as per your post....but as long as you sign on the dotted line .. it would appear that you have accepted the contractual obligation. |
