No, unfortunately not. I know, it is going to make his job prospects extremely difficult! We have almost a year to work something out, and hopefully get him (and I!) a good grasp of Spanish, and as for the job... hope there is somewhere he can get something, doing anything! x |

Melanissa. A question if I may. You say that your other half has no teaching qualification, no experience and speaks no Spanish. Yet he hopes to find work in Spain teaching English. Put yourself in the place of his would be students/customers.
Would you happily hand over money for English classes if you knew that your teacher was unqualified, inexperienced, had no degree and no knowledge of the the local language? |

Of course not, sorry I probably didn't make it at all clear when I remarked about him teaching! It's more of an idea - if, over the next year, he can get up to scratch with Spanish and get some kind of experience here in the UK (don't worry - I wholeheartedly despise the notion of people just swanning off somewhere to teach English because it's their native language so think they'll do a good job! Hence why I'm doing the CELTA even though I'm an experienced teacher, as I know it's a different ball game!). It was just something to consider working towards, although I know he'll have difficulty without a degree. Teaching 'skills' wise - he trains people in the job he's in now, which is kind of transferable, but I do realise he would need to do lots before he could think about this, it's just a shame that half the TEFLs around are worthless in the knowdl/skills they'd give you, or I'd be getting him on on of those nonsense online TEFLs now! |
