Pratchett's humour is similar to Adam's but imho he's a stronger, more flexible writer. Each of his Discworld books shows something new. I shipped a box full of Discworld novels to China a few weeks ago, I can hardly wait until some of my friends reads _Interesting Times_.
Has anyone else read any of Orwell's more serious works? _Road to Wigan Pier_, perhaps? No comparison. |
One of my best friend's was engaged to Terry Pratchett's daughter Rhianna for several years, there still on off now, I never realised but Terry is Britain's best selling author apparently and is so succesful that his daughter the aforementioned Rhianna is inheriting 40 million pounds on her 40th birthday!!! She's a succesful journalist in her own right so god knows what she'll do with all that money! I think my friend should stop messing her about and stay with her for that sort of money!! lol (joke) |

Much of his work seems more and more relevant today, as "Big Brother" appears to be becoming more and more of a reality. Let's all hope that the future Orwell envisioned so chillingly in "1984" never comes to pass.

You mean, electronic monitoring, incessant party music, malleable history lessons and corporate-filtered news, war for profits, economic and intellectual oppression and deindividualization? Or do you mean you hope big handlebar mustaches don't come back? Cause brother, the big mustaches are the only thing I haven't seen for a while, and if this trend with the men dressing like girls continues, then maybe the women will start twiddling with facial hair.... |
