So, is "The Resort City" the official slogan for Taif now or something that you've applied? The weather can't be beat! |
That's in the context of the usual weather in KSA, right? I've lived in Taif and would agree on that basis, but I can think of dozens of places I've been in the world that would be Taif.

OK, what's an Al-Gaimer (I guess that means I'm not one )?
Oh, forgot to edit my last post to read "that would beat Taif."
My bad.

The Al-Gaim Compound, outside of the bae compound, is the major compound that caters to military types. I lived there as an Al-Salam Aircraft and Raytheon laborer once in the 90's and once in this century.
It's true that "Taif is nice"! |

Yes, yes..Taif it is...The weather is great compared to its surrounding cities. I think the hottest I have experienced was 102, but only one day. The rest of the time its below 100 and its generally only hot from like 10-4 or so, after that its pretty good.
But, I have to agree Taif is dull and I am sure if you haven't been here in years the only thing that has changed is the addition of new housing.

Then, yep, it's true, I'm an Al-Gaimer veteran! I had a decent 1-bedroom duplex there, actually. Fully-furnished, which I much prefer over the run-out-the-first-week-and-buy-everything-for-your-flat-with-money-that's-not-really-yours ritual in the UAE. And I had a full-size American washer and dryer, and a dishwasher!!!
Taif is OK, but getting to JED for vacations was a pain in the a_ _.

They sleep all day and eat all night. Thus screwing up the body clock and encouraging gluttony. Fasting was originally intended to cleanse the body and give time to meditate/reflect on life, etc.
Food prices are sometimes trebled and last year there was almost a revolution over the price of tomatoes. I've never seen Saudis so agitated.
In the workplace, Moslems are often allowed to come in at 11am, while non-Moslems have to turn up as usual at 7am. Aramco cuts its lesson time down from 50 minutes to 20! Hehe. |

Yep! They pretty much turn the experience on it head...but, somehow, retain their pious authority!
It's enough to make your eyes roll to the back of your head! |

No different that what the "Christians" have done. It is now the 6th of September. The Christmas decorations will be out any time now... after all, there are only 110 shopping days till Christmas.

I fail to see the connection. Muslims claim to be fasting for spiritual purposes, then pig out every night of Ramadan, all night. How does that relate to putting up Christmas decorations?
That's quite a stretch.

No stretch at all... both religions have perverted the meaning of their religious 'holiday' into a perfect example of gluttony and greed that would appall both of their prophets.

Did someone just mention how interrelated profits and religious holidays are?
It's just about the only thing we, as different religions, agree on! |

Funnily enough, that's exactly what happened to me the other day! I'm still a bit skew-wiff, but it doesn't half help when you walk backwards. |

Vs, your friends are wrong. Not the first time Saudis have bent the rules to suit themselves. |

I assume that you are referring to Iftar timing. Not sure if you would be considered a superior authority to their mosque - which is one of the largest in the US, but what difference does it make to us? All religious rules are a matter of interpretation. Don't even get me started on "Ramadhan rules"!! I have a collection of them from the annual newspaper "Ask the Imam" columns.
