| Get a few years of full-time service with any private sector or government employer, and you'll get more than two weeks of vacation. A lot of people I know have trouble using all of their vacation, and end up losing some of it, or being forced to take days off before year's end. |
I've heard about these jobs with all of two weeks holiday per year. I thought the USA abolished this slavery idea, but it seems I'm mistaken. Seriously, though, why do American companies give so few holidays?
In my native Britain, I think 24 days a year is the norm, unless you're a school teacher, in which case it's just under seven months, Here in Germany, it's 30 days, and I would eat my hat collection if I ever met anyone who didn't take every single day of those 30 plus public holidays, flexitime and a generous helping of paid sickies for good measure. Anyone having trouble using all their holiday allowance is just warped. |

| Thanks MotherF. I'm at work for 8 hours and only teaching 4 or 5 of those hours (well, actually 40 min. classes) a day. The job is considered a good one, but I find satisfaction lacking. The pay is good and I can save, so that is what is keeping me here for now. However, prior teaching jobs that I had which were more rigorous were definitely more satisfying. |

And the Germans call us southern mediterranean types work-shy!!!!
Btw, my sister is a teacher in the UK and certainly doesn't get seven months holiday. Did you mean seven weeks? Or is she doing something wrong?! |
