| Frankly, I'm surprised at what I've discovered--that there appears to be more FTs in Korea than anywhere else in Asia including China. Anyone have numbers? |

| more people need to reply. would be interesting - as mentioned earlier - to ask people's nationality and then ask what country they teach in. see if there is any correlation. |

No numbers, but China loses out because they pay diddly squat compared to South Korea. Another reason could be that China is heavily vilified by the western media outlets, thus driving many people away from teaching there. On top of that, the Chinese government is levying a 11% tax on foreign employees for "social benefits". At this point, it's really not worth going to China IMO. EFL salaries have been stagnant here for 10 years and now they're gonna bump our tax rates? |

| Wow! 1,000+ views but only 70+ responses? Either the OP forgot to include a poll response or there are a lot of guests on this forum. |

Well, some of us (including the OP ) came back to debate related issues but didn't tick a poll response on subsequent visits to the thread. However, you're right that lots of looks and relatively few responses to the poll. Dunno why people don't click - no-one will even know who they are unless they also choose to post something... |

United States (2,420) 55% of the total
Canada (474) 10%
UK (399) 9%
Australia (254) 5%
New Zealand (206) 4%
Ireland (112) 2%

| I'm from the UK and I teach in Mexico, for the record. I am always actively recruiting EFL friends to come out here too, I want to balance things out (well a little, realistically that's never going to happen!). |

Yes, you and your compatriots certainly are! If the current poll tally is anywhere near representative of the global TEFLer breakdown, then there are roughly twice as many TEFLers from the UK than other English-speaking countries.
A year ago I was surprised to note the vast majority of B.Ed grad overseas recruiters on campus at a Canadian university were from England! |

LongShiKong, I'm confused about your intentions with your post... you seem to have selectively quoted me. I was making a light comment about trying to encourage my friends to join me in Mexico (a country closer to my heart than my homeland and in which I've had the most wonderful, enriching teaching experience). I was not commenting on the (apparently?) sinister proportion of British teachers in the EFL world.
May I add, when I said "I am always actively recruiting" I was not being literal. Are you a native speaker? |
