Good idea both of you---- Paulie, why don't you start a new thread, something that all of us could contribute to equally.

I can't relate to P's topic, sorry. Twenty centuries have passed since he died and supposedly ascended to heaven. What's the relevance?

The relevance is......

I'm trying to start a compromise.

Maybe Paulie could start a topic/thread that wouldn't be too waz the word....OFFENSIVE??!!! Exclamation Exclamation Question Question

And the rest of us could contribute to it....

On the other hand, maybe that's asking a bit too much of...ummm..Paulie....maybe I should start the thread since I have a background in Philosophy and World Religions.....

How about...someone pick...

1) God caused the tsunami in S Asia

2) Satan/ Negative Religious Force caused the tsunami

3) We all go to the afterlife of the religion/Faith we believe in-- i.e. there's a God above all gods who calls the shots

Oh, I already know...this will be CHAOS Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Mad Mad

I think everyone except some crazy Muslim I read about somewhere (probably here on Daves) agrees that god doesn't resort to floods any more, so that one's dead, likewise I doubt any seriuos believers of any faith would grant Satan the power or motivaton for it either, so I guess 3 is the best possible choice.

How about 4) Religious fanatics will be held responsible in the afterlife for all those people they "unconverted" due to their pedantic zealousness.

Disclaimer: The 2005 caring sharing mixtecamike affirms that he is not referring to anybody on this board.

The actual relevance is that the Church today has more active members than at any other time in history...and Evil or Very Mad is MAD...

Now, since most of these people believe that they are serving a 'living' deity - I think there is a tremendous amount of 'relevance'...

Idea Why don't we try to think of ways in which Cristianity has not been 'relevant' in a historical context...?

...'impossible' you might say...

Paulie, I'm a part of the Church to which you refer (although I cringe at the way you represent her on this forum). So, to clarify, you might be mad, but I'm not.

Thank you for clarifying, Paulie. I was confused with your use of emoticons rather than words. The meaning isn't always so clear. In this case, I accept that I misunderstood your intended meaning.

Tamara, LOL---what did you think Evil or Very Mad was referring to??? Your Church???? hahahahahha. That's the funniest thing I've heard all day!! Answer me on the other board if you want. LOL

Hey, new nice sharing/caring Mixteca Mike--your wife must REALLY love the new-you!!! Laughing

I like your idea--that zealots be held responsible in the afterlife for those they "unconvert" Now there's an interesting word! Maybe if zealots and evangelists would just live the life they profess they wouldn't chase people away.Or resolve only to answer questions--be available to answer questions instead of forcefeeding people. I mean we're all adults and can read religious literature for ourselves.

I think the idea of going to an afterlife of one's own religion is interesting and compelling, albeit a little heretical--I wouldn't for example--broadcast that that's what I suspect, in church, for example. A Christian minister confided in me once that that's what he also believed.

Paulie, how come you don't answer people's direct questions to you? Are you taking Spanish lessons? What church are you attending in SS--I know SS. Are you in the center of the city or in a suburb like Escalon? Is it possible to travel freely throughout the country now? IT wasn't when I was there. I went outside the capital to Ilobasco to see where the munequitos de barro are made and the family I was staying with were absolutely PETRIFIED. And forget about going ever further afield such as to Chalate or La Union--the military and guerrilla had roadblocks. Just wondering how the climate was there today. Laughing

My interpretation:

Quote:
The actual relevance is that the Church [Christians everywhere, from every denomination] today has more active members than at any other time in history...and [dramatic emphasis with an emoticon to express the emotion] is MAD...

I never thought of Evil or Very Mad or Twisted Evil as meaning THE DEVIL. I just though it was an "angry" emoticon. I've got to go back and re-read every post where Paulie used it and see if I understand him differently now. When will I get the time???
