Got a 9 day workweek coming up. Sad

Preceded by how many days holiday?

Monday through Friday off.

2 of those days I normally have off. With the 9 days next week, I get all total, 1 day of holiday.

Oh well.

Unlike others, I won't bother sitting down with my boss and citing Chinese labor laws,

I don't do this either, but it is good to be aware of what the laws say.

Hearing posters complain about having to possibly work a whole seven days in a row* once a year makes me worry if we ever need to call on any of these people for help in the event of a national emergency of any kind. Because if we do we're phuked.

*keeping in mind that a work day for many FTs is actually only 3-5 real hours of work.

Thanks AA.
No surprises that these people are in China because they can't find work at home.

Well it should be ok unless the national emergency is on the previous or following Sunday of a holiday.

Well, I like one or two days a week where I'm not around anyone. I need my quiet time. This coming week is going to suck, but thankfully it is only one week.

I do have a day where I have a single class, might just come down with cholera.

There was a poster recently who asked for comment on a contract he/she had received from a Chinese employer.
After a couple of response the OP posted a list of:
I'm not doing this
I'm not doing that..
The sheer unreadiness for employment. let alone in a different country with a different social and political system, of some posters ain't encouraging.
This is China's century - get used to it.

Double whammy.

Not wishing to defend the troll, but, I am willing to bet that anyone ELSE reading this comment would infer that he meant the individual posters ability to block other users, rather than the admins. It was quite obvious that is what he meant, therefore you are reduced to single whamminess

Par for the course as the economic landscape leaves a lot of able minds out in the cold.

"He must be a loser at home and can't get a job." -Butt-hurt local as you pass by with a beauty holding your hand.

Wasn't expecting to hear it from other expats though, isn't it kind of shooting yourself in the foot with that comment?

Couldn't be that we find living at home boring or too politically correct for our liking? So what if some people go abroad to get a job, isn't it better than them being a burden on their homeland? (collecting E.I. and writing articles on how life sucks and isn't fair instead of looking for a job).

Also, what kind of person wouldn't want to go and live somewhere where there is less competition to attaining essential life resources (chicks and income)... Duh!

Yeah. I last lived in Reagan's America (It was Midnight in America!) I kept seeing these bumper-stickers that told me to "Love it or leave it!" And so I did. Doing so I instantly raised my status from lower lowest class and dishwasher to upper-middle class foreign professor. Duh indeed!

An important thing about chinese contracts is that they are often much more flexible than what the print actually says (for minor issues). As long as the major entitlements have been adhered to (and confirmed by current or previous teachers) be prepared to be flexible (but not a doormat) about some other things.

That's another wrinkle on the make up issue.
Was this a public school or private?

You could always create your own makeup day if you're feeling neglected.
