Yeah, I'm pretty much in Nano's boat. I don't give a rats arse if the kids are pissing around, as long as they aren't loud. If they get shitty marks it's on them. I've been at schools where they've tried to pin the bad marks on the foreigner teacher, and they suddenly changed their tune when they realized all the foreign teachers would leave after a month of it. If the students don't want to be good in class, it's on them they're wasting their own time. As long as I don't get reprimanded for it then it's cool. I'm not their mommy/daddy who has spoiled them all their life. If they are a dick to me i'll be a dick to them, if they are quiet and not paying attention then I don't care. Get bad marks and deal with the consequences (Chinese teacher changing the grades while I am not there).
I've had some absolutely awful primary school classes where the kids were absolutely ridiculous if there was no Chinese teacher present. I didn't care if they didn't pay attention, but if they were loud.. everyone faced the wall. This was counter-productive in the sense that I would have a 40 minute class with these kids for once a week, and I would spend half of it making them face a wall. Good times! |
