One of my best friends in Moscow is a Moscovite and is extremely successful as an English teacher there. Having said that, he has perfect American English, and frequently masquerades as an American instead and gets away with it easily.

Besides, surely having a second language is always an advantage, especially for the lower levels!

how'd your friend get perfect American English? did he study in the USA?

he still probably has an accent unless he immigrated to an English speaking country before the age of 5.

even the Russians I met who had excellent English would use certain words out of context or say things a native never would sometimes.

good skill to have though, he can fool all the Russians.

He did study in the USA yeah, but has absolutely no trace of being a Russian when speaking English. Like I've said, he's made many believe he is actually an American! Always makes me laugh when we're out together speaking English, then he places food/drinks orders in perfect Russian. Always freaks the staff out Laughing Laughing Laughing

I gotta hear this guy...can't believe he has no trace of an accent but perhaps some people are that gifted.

You should be the one banned for trolling. Why do you keep making comments directed at me out of the blue with the intent to provoke a reaction. that's the definition of a troll.

You know exactly what you're doing. Now go fetch drog and get a life.

Your setting yourself up as an authority on English syntax and accents, and the ensuing dismissive comments directed at non-natives, has already scared off one other poster.

If you could even manage not to post such questionable uses of English yourself, then such assumptions might be tolerable. As it is...

Now, have a look at the slew of insulting posts and name-calling you have directed at me, and then contrast your utterances to my posts. I think you'll find that therein lies the difference, and that the term troll applies only to you.

Huh? get a life man. I don't know how you extrapolate all that from my comments, must be the vodka you're chugging.

I said I got good ears to recognize accents. This has nothing to do with syntax, lest you not know the real definition.

What "ensuing dismissive comments directed at non-natives"? show me the proof dude.

I didn't scare off nobody. There's only like 5 or 6 people posting on this forum anyways. I leave for a few weeks and come back and it's same ol'.

And I'm pretty sure my English is better than yours, not to mention my Russian, Chinese, French, Korean. You probably got me in Gaelic and Welsh though.

Is this forum your best friend or something? cause it sure seems you take things here way too seriously. Perhaps that energy would be better served cultivating relationships in the real world, so as to give you clairvoyance between reality and fantasy. Meh

I'm pretty sure that your ego outstrips your abilities.

Now, perhaps you can use your nannying expertise to help out the OP?

Euphemism for being banned. It can happen for posting the very comments you are wont to. If even just temporarily...

hahah being banned? for what reason? I never even see a moderator in here. Dude it's called having a life and meeting friends, going on dates, playing sports, enjoying the summer. I wonder if you know anything about that.

I don't have time to be checking up here every day. But you sure seem to. You're already living and working in Russia. Why are you even posting here. Surely not out of benevolence.

new teachers going to Russia have far better online resources for up to date info. but you wouldn't know about that.
