This place seems awash with educational consultants peddling nonsense. |
That useless gang of carpetbaggers have been haunting the halls of Gulf education ministries since the 70's. THEY made lots of money, but have mainly kept the systems in constant flux without ever actually helping the students (or teachers).

Totally agree.
The big thing out here right now seems to be including Behavioural in a curriculum.

My boss at TTC in Riyadh was a former educational consultant in the UAE, and he also peddled nonsense.
It's a funny old world, isn't it? |

I live in Abu Dhabi, and it's expensive. If your employer pays for your housing, then 14,000aed a month is doable. To get a one-bedroom apartment, you can expect to pay around 8,000-10,000aed per month (but you usually have to pay a year up front). I spend another 3,000-4,000aed per month on groceries for my family. |

Is 14000 AED Monthly for Abu Dhanbi a good pay rate for a School Psychologist with a PhD |
Since you don't have kids, arguably you could save a bit off this salary, but your lifestyle would be rather modest. Look for Ph.D jobs, then you might see better pay. And the fact that they are willing to pay for some schmuck with a BA's slew of kids and give him the same salary should send you running because that total package is ridiculously high! You should therefore be getting 20k-25k salary and an unaccountable housing allowance of 12k, plus 2k a month in flight allowance to be fair, and at least 4 weeks paid vacation + national holidays, + gratuity, etc. Otherwise, unless you have some special attachment to the Gulf, better to stay away. |

Yes, good point that we're a bigger family. Groceries for just two adults would probably be less than half this.
If the OP is interested in coming to the UAE in general, a better option might be to look into applying to work at the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology. They have branches in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and I know they keep psychologists on staff. There are somewhat limited options for psychiatric care in the UAE, and so this place stays booked solid. With a PhD in psychology and a specialty in dealing with adolescents, you might have a good shot at a job there that would pay you significantly better than working as a school counselor, and you could still work with the same age range. Just an idea. |
