I spent quite a bit of time in the UAE-Al Ain and AD-and over the years NEVER EVER have I seen any americans being "wasted"or if they did they were quiet about it.Brits usually are ok if they're over forty. But let's not have petty arguments based on nationality:boorish loutish behaviour cuts across continents and class.

I remember they put us up in a hotel for a few days then we went to the cities where we were assigned. And of course, one or two teachers in each locale didn't show up.

Now if this is the same contract as the TECHNICAL SCHOOLS, there was apparently no hurry to begin school, even though we hurried over there, but school didn't start on the 1st day "of school" but because of cultural differences a few showed up here and some more later on.

Yes, they paid us on time, they provided us a furnished apartment. But, we also had an American company going to bat for us.

I don't want to say too much, because this may not be the technical schools.

This is NOT the same thing at all.....they don't provide apt's, you have to pay your own way and these jobs are in gov't schools.

However, I don't want to make comments if it's something altogether different.

Aspect was based out of San Fran and got the "technical" high school in the UAE. They were at all of the cities around the country and about 30 or more teachers went over there.

Times have changed..you can't compare years ago in the UAE to what's happening now. Wink

I don't understand why some here are being so negative...I arrived here about 5 days ago and as far as I can see, things are going fine. We are training, residency permits are being done, we are lodging comfortably as we wait and train... It just boggles my mind.

Thanks for posting Neilboy - this is reassuring!
I hope to affirm the same once onboard.

So Neilboy, you're in the free initial lodging. How does it pan out when that period is over re housing?

Some haven't got their passports back. They are still in paid hotels...Those who have their documents or some of it have moved out.... some have gotten paid and I in particular am in my own furnished apt for a month...I chose this manner because it helps me 'scout' around before deciding if a furnished or unfurnished place is best for me in the long term. Yes, it gets chaotic because of all the waves of in-comers while those already here haven't all been set up yet. I am teaching as well now, btw.

Damn. I'm here stressing because I haven't heard anything besides that they're 'processing' the visa. I already signed the contract and sent all my relevant legal documents and just out of the country waiting. All I can do now is wait til after the holiday is over, right?

Government workers are expected to be on holiday from Sept 11-17. Maybe you'll get lucky and have your visa in hand before then.

I was supposed to be paid on the 28th....I'm still waiting....

Got a hotel bill hanging over my head. If I don't get paid soon I'll be effectively homeless. Welcome to the UAE.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping if not counting on, NS. The MOE rep has basically informed me simply that the visa is being processed along with nearly a hundred others. This was sometime last week.

And Golden Beach, thanks for feeding into my worst nightmare....

Weren't you advised to bring a certain amount of money to tie you over until your first payday?

Yeah, well I'm living it right now...... The Ministry need to buck their ideas up if they're gonna try to run a show like this.
