Roger, you've challenged me several times in the past when I criticised your attitudes toward teaching in China. I gave you my background in another thread.
Your reasoning seems to be the following:
Have you ever taught English?
[if "yes", then answer the following:]
Have you taught in Asia?
[if "yes", then answer the following:]
Have you taught young children?
[if "yes", then answer the following:]
Have you taught in China?
[if "yes", then answer the following:]
How many years have you lived in China?
[if "not more than ten", then the following:]
So don't question my skills.
Roger, there have been quite a few posters here who demonstrate that they have much better teaching skills with young Chinese students than you do (even with far fewer years in country than you). You refuse to believe that it's your own lack of expertise or creativity with young students that is the problem. Your description of your own classroom activities bears this out completely.
Why don't you consider getting a CELTA? If you have that qualification (or its equivalent, which I doubt after having read some of your more preposterous ideas), why don't you get the Young Learners extension? Why don't you ever post to the Teacher Forums to ask about others' successful methods and activities to use with young Chinese learners? In the Teacher Forums, you always lecture and offer your (untrained) advice, but you never ask others for advice or suggestions.
Putting the blame ALWAYS on your students and on Chinese culture is a lame excuse. And it becomes increasingly unbelievable. |
