If you don't know what I mean when I say "Azalea House", then you probably don't know me. If you know what I mean, then apartment number 316. Smile

Yaks are scum. No other way to put it. Scum of the earth.

I get irritated when I hear my fellow gaijin going on about how they 'know' some yakuza guy, or how they hang out in a bar where yakuza go. What are they, trying to get a little 'rub' off their association with criminals? It's pathetic.

Yakuza specialize in human misery. They are jackals. They dont care who gets hurt as long as they can fulful their greed. The fact that the police are 'in on it' with them only makes the police look bad.

I think we joke about it because we really dont understand. We see yaks who seem to be caricatures- the poofy hair, bad sunglasses, loud suits, and we laugh at them. Because we are on the outside fringes of society we dont take them seriously. How would YOU feel if a Japanese friend in,for example, Vancouver, started to talk about how they were buddies with the Tongs (Chinese/Vietnamese gangs), and loved going to Tong restaurants? It would be the same thing.

I don't think I know you! Last year, I had returned to Japan to teach at a high school after teaching in Korea for a few months. While I was waiting for the school year to start, I worked two days to live rent free at a house in Saitama. There was a guy there who liked Japan but couldn't get a job because he did not have a 4 year degree. He was planning to go back to the states to get the degree and then return to Japan. I just thought maybe you were that guy, but I guess not.

Nagoyahunk you got the Yakuza all wrong! They really are nice people. In fact I am dating one and I am new to Japan. Of course we are dating in secrete but I don't think because I am a foreigner! He is so kind to me!

You probably go to a Yakuza bar but don't know it! I hear most if not all bars are in some way connected to the Yakuza. Anyway as the saying goes don't knock it until you try one!

Love you sweaty!

The short version.

Last night a yakuza nearly ran me down. Driving a toyota people carrier, didn`t look like yaks. Without thinking, I hit the side window and they stopped, bundled me in the back and tried to extort money from me. Nice tattoos they had. The Yaks returned to the scene of the crime, to meet up with an English speaker, but the cops had shown up.. We all went to the copshop where *I* had to apologise. Oh yeah, somewhere in the middle, they copied my gaijin card, although I got the copy back from the cops.

I live v close to where it happened. Now what.....

Good post G-stringed avenger......so basically the Yakuza are just regular guys, who, like every other decent bloke, promote group sex with school girls and then use extreme violence when extorting money. And there was me thinking they were the 'bad' guys; thanks for setting me straight. Crying or Very sad And they even know how to swear in English...they really are proper angels, eh? Confused

Hmmm. Can't recall myself glorifying or accepting it in any way. Just explained it to you.

Wow dude! Are you sure they were Yakuza? Either way they sound like thugs.
Probably nothing will happen, but still whatever you do watch your back! If you do see any of them in a safe place you should apologize again but don't show fear! Nothing to loose and lots to gain.
I guess the lesson to learn is control your temper! I know the importance of controling my temper from past experience.

Lots of excess makeup in the car, sounded like yakuza, heading toward a yakuza building, full body tats. Told me they were, cops told me they were. I`m usually immensely calm too. I@ve maybe done it once before in 3 years, nd missed the car. bad luck I hit, bad luck it was yaks, good luck I`m still typing this with 10 fingers.
So far.

Watching back like a hawk. Shocked
