I'm just waiting for the day when I can download (or is it upload?) my consciousness onto the net and really become cyber. We can already make an animation of our physical dimensions; all we need is the virtual technology to meet inside the Internet. This is not too far off and the possibilities are endless: we're talking a virtual world where traveling is obsolete and your cyber image is the only one that counts. Tokyo is a click away. After our physical bodies perish, we will have the choice of deleting our cyber images or leaving them there for those who want to remember us. One step closer to immortality! Can't wait! |
No thanks. You first. When I die, I am out of here. |

You mean like the old argument that you can prove reality exists because one could really be just a brain in a jar hooked up to a computer ...
Such an upload of ones consciousness would be something similar. Must admit I have mixed feelings about this. While it seems perverse to cheat death in such a way, on the other hand having exactly the body I want is not such a bad idea! hee hee Then I could make myself a guy for a while and find out what it is like to pee standing up -
On a more serious note, it is really weird what is going on with Guy. All I ever remember him saying is that he is in Mexico for the long haul. He and his wife have other business connections in DF. Seems weird for him to seemingly dissappear off the face of the (cyber) map -- even for a promotion.
The mystery continues.... |

I do love mysteries.
In his last email, Guy told me that he just got back to Mexico and will join dave's shortly. This was May 7th. I'm afraid we should all consider that something catastrophic has happened to Guy and he's desperately trying to work things out or (as much as I hate to say this) he's six feet under. |

Hi everybody, I just wanted to say- I dont think you should be sobbing over Guy yet. He is still alive and well. We spoke to his company in Mexico City who said Guy still works for them, he must have got a promotion as was said. His company is still in contact with him, we received an email from someone there saying they would contact Guy regarding the TEFL class my husband was taking. So, dont cry for him yet!! Dana |

Well, that's good to know!
I think something definitely odd has happened, but I still hope to have a drink with him at some Canadian Embassy or other some day..
As for that uploading my consciousness to the internet thang, no thanks. One of the most important things in my relationships with people is the physical contact. Even living my current monastic life, I love the few physical contacts with people I have. In fact, its one of the things I like about latino culture. Wouldn't give that up for anything!
Have a great day (and a big cyber-hug from me! )

I'm so glad that Guy is not pushing up Daisies.
As for cyberlife: I think that physical aspect can and will be overcome. I don't see why we can't have cybertouch that is as "real" as "the real". |

Me too! My return to Mexico has been postponed to late July and I don't know if I should bring Fig Newtons for Guy as I had promised. Maybe Guy returned to Canada for cookies and other treats not to be found in the D.F. |

Well, maybe we should set a trap. Perhaps we could lay out plates of Fig Newtons around the area and see if we can lure him out of hiding. All we need are some big nets and several cases of cookies. It may not work for Elmer Fudd, but I'm sure we can figure it out.
Seriously now, this is a little disturbing. Jesus, Guy, if you're alive, at least let us know, 'cause if you're not we need to decide who inherits your precious Fig Newtons. |

Reports of my death or imprisonment have been greatly exaggerated,
Sorry y'all, especially to the Prof. How is everyone? |
