Speaking of music, I'm a bit of a music nut too, and one of the things I'm most worried about with my planned move to Istanbul is how I am going to feed my music addiction... What are the CD shops like in Istanbul? Or am I going to have to get used to buying music from the net? My music tastes are along the lines of At the Drive In etc...

I'm not one of these people who want to move to a new country and pack my current life up and bring it with me - I'm really excited about it all, but the music thing is the one thing I'm a bit nervous about... am already busy loading up my MP3 player...

I have acquired a lot of very cool, very affordable music since ı moved here four million years ago. One of the great things about Turkey is the plethora of (*cough*) not 100% legal copies of cds and dvds to be found on the streets and in certain not entirely reputable places in Kadıky, Beşiktaş, etc. As well, there is good, affordable adsl here so you can download to your heart's delight. And, well, there is a lot of very very good local music which sells for about 10ytl for a legal cd in the shops (as opposed to the aforementioned not so legal cds).

There's a Virgin opening?
I want to be first in.

Dukejob - If you want to check out some Turkish music I suggest Replikas.

I use Amazon to get a lot of my CDs.

Thanks for the advice - I feel much better now Very Happy

Dukejob, I'll have to get some tips at some point about music on the 'net - you see I am one of these old fashioned gals who loves to own the CD - I'm only just starting to dip my toes in the waters of internet music.
