From what I have seen Jeff Lee of Beijing Wellgo would be considered a good recruiter. I have spoken with a few people already who have been placed by him in Chinese universities.
I hope that this is on topic.
Currently I am approaching a position on two fronts, contacting schools on my own "AND" checking out possibilites offered by recruiters. Regardless, in the end, I have total control of the final decision of where I will teach next year. |

certainly very much on topic - maybe what this thread needs is an up to date acount of how a newbie finds a job in China rather than the procrastinations of the old fart brigade like me
Tell us why this recruiter was recomended - does it cost to use his services/ are there hidden costs - tell us how you find dealing directly with a school differs from dealing with a recruiter.
Of course you're only one example - and the prob here is that there is such a variation in service and credibility from recruiters and school, which makes job finding (at least the first one) such a hit and miss experience - but finding out how you fare would be interesting - even for a crusty ol' whinger like me |

| I am currently happily employed in a university close to Qingdao. I used Angelina's Cafe and found them to be helpful, honest and reliable. They are used mainly by universities and colleges to recruit teachers. THe lady I dealt with, Mary Zhang, was wonderful and I have no hesitation in recommening them. THe Uni pays them so it costs you nothing. |

Queenslander - can you list the services you get from the recruiter you have named.
When applying for a job can you negotiate wages or other conditions?
What happens if you're not satisfied with a job - will this recruiter help you find a new one?
Are you employed under roughly the same terms as the other FT's at your uni?
Now after you have some China experience would you find your next job with a recruiter or on your own? |

Now that I have worked in China I am no longer a newbie. When I was a newbie I had all the phobias that come with it. This was compounded by the fact that I am here with a wife and 10 year old son. I cannot say if my recruiter could have enabled me to negotiate as I was content with the terms of my employment. I can tell you that the FT's live and work under the same conditions I do and yes, I would use Angelina's again to secure a position. Hope this answers your questions. |
