I hear you on the sharp dichotomy between students and staff.
My students were the reason I signed on for another year. Two classes in particular were always capable of putting a smile on my face even after the roughest of weeks.
Staff relations, with three notable exceptions (two very good, one very bad) were merely cool and distant. I suspect the locals -- although actually being paid better than us once all the bonuses, etc. roll in -- resent the foreign staff because we are now the people the students go to for all the answers.
Adminstrators started off mostly distant and then progressed to being an active threat to mental well-being. They are the ones in the end who drove away the foreign teachers. |
