Just listened to an interesting set of radio interviews from the Oaxaca zocalo. The PFP have opened it up to the public again, so small shop owners are trying to put their lives back together. Several locals interviewed have expressed relief that they feel free to be able to move about again. There were several complaints about feeling invaded by APPO and they expressed misgivings about how many of the people involved in the riots aren't even from the state.

Delicate is how they are describing things right now.

Mexico, where the surreal is the daily stuff of life.
Ruiz is now taking his case before the supreme court to negate both congress`s and the senate`s call for his resignation. He is saying that they have exeeded thier duties and that they do not have the right to interfere in Oaxacan political affairs.
So in his mind the PFP arriving is to defend him.
In older days in Mexico he would have been offered the traditional 'plomo o plata' (silver of lead, ie money or bullet).
He's already been offered a job anywhere in the federal government if he were to resign. He should be offered the choice of jail or resigning-immediately.
I don't want to imagine that he's actually hoping to hang on till December 1st. That's the majic date after which if he were to resign he gets to choose an interim government. If it's before then elections have to be called.

For those following the story. I thought this article was surprisingly well balanced considering it comes from "the other campaign".

God read Melee, thanks. I've often found Narconews to be very left-biased, but this one is fairly balanced. Showed it to my brother-in-law and now he's flustered.
