that reminds me of a time that a friend invited me to a bar which turned out to be closed for "fire code violation" because it had no emergency exit. about 3 weeks later it reopened and absolutely nothing about the physical structure of the place had been changed at all. still one exit only.
i would love to be the fire marshall, he must be insanely rich.

Turns out at least one place in DF has decided to outright ban smoking instead of installing sealed-off cancer wards. The jazz club we hit this past weekend...no smoking at all inside. One would think jazz and a smokey scene go hand in hand. I'll admit it was nicer to be smoke-free.

Not for the smokers! In that case I'm glad I didn't waste my $100. I would've walked out and demanded a refund. Crying or Very sad

We smokers did alright, simply stepping outside for a butt. Could still see and hear the band from just outside the door.

Now, they might have wanted to ban heated political discussion along with smoking. We were shushed by the crowd towards the end of the eve.

But you would have missed out on an evening of wonderful music. And you wouldn't have been able to storm out and demand a refund because we weren't asked to pay the cover charge till we were about to leave after spending several hours enjoying ourselves.

I saw this article on the BBC that they've since an increase in the number of smokers quit, and a drop in cigarette sales since the UK's ban went into place.

From the BBC article:

Quote:
Quitters were defined as those who, by their own account, were still not smoking four weeks after treatment.

According to public health specialists, perhaps as many as 50% of those will however be smoking again six months later.

Why on earth would anyone smoke in the UK? Who can afford it? When I left it was getting on for 5 quid a packet, can't imagine how much it is now.

Qu?

I went into 3 local tienditas this morning to buy some Marlboro Rojos without success, in the fourth I found them. The owner told me that the abarrotes are waiting for permission to sell cigarettes as a new law is in force where there are a lot of schools in the area.

The nanny state arrives in Mexico. Crying or Very sad

Went to a seafood restaurant today, and over one of the arches inside was painted this quote:

"Quien no fuma ni toma se muere en perfecta salud'"

In English, 'He who neither smokes nor drinks dies in perfect health'.
