Hi Everyone on UAE Daves
Can we as a team try to find jobs for those who seem to have lost theirs at the PI and it seems also at UAEU. If you know of any leads, or have someone in the know, why not post here and for those who might be looking, give them a chance to find something else. I can't understand why the PI did not inform these teachers before Tesol Arabia to give those laid off a chance to apply along with everyone else. One place I keep looking at is TEFL.com and another is the British site Times Educational Supplement (TES). I heard that Cfbt is also looking for loads of teachers for Abu Dhabi. British Aerospace in KSA advertised last week on TEFL.com - they pay well I think. What about ZU, HCT, UGRU? Sultan Qaboos in Oman impressed when I interviewed at Tesol. |

I agree that it was very unfair not to inform these teachers before TESOL Arabia. But, I don't know that it is the job of this discussion board or would even be allowed to go into the placement business. Most of the PI teachers have been around the Gulf for awhile, so they should know where to send those applications.
Actually some of the English teachers were interviewing at T-A, so they must have read the tea leaves.
I have heard that the number of terminations is up to 11 - which would be about a third of the department.

SplittingHairs, always nice to think this forum can be of assistance to everyone.
You'd want to make certain about reading up on the CfBT performance, wouldn't you? They don't yet know if they're even going to be allocated more PPPs and we've already read here that there are to be no P4s. CfBT failed in Qatar, and are not managing in Oman or Malaysia. Brunei had a good name.
Those who've just lost jobs through no fault of their own should not go jumping on the CfBT, MAG or Sabis bandwagons where they're even more likely to be left insecure. |

I don't know any details at all about who has been laid off. I suspect that they are maths and science lecturers though, so TESOL wouldn't have been any use to them anyway - correct?
As far as I know everyone else is safe (fingers crossed!) as these lay-offs are due to the restructuring of foundation. |

I should restate this.
I have heard from several of my friends who are Maths instructors at HCT, that the foundations program is currently under review for the next year. It appears that math and IT will be phased out of the foundations program.
Now I could be wrong, and if I am would someone please let me know.
Thank you. |

Adorabilly - did you mean PI or HCT?
As far as I know at the PI: Foundation is currently undergoing restructuring with a view to making it about 80% focused towards English skills. The other 20% is to include lab skills and 'soft skills'. Maths, physics and chem classes will still continue though there's a chance that might involve Glenelg school - I'm not quite sure how that would pan out.
Hence my assumption that the lay-offs have been maths/science lecturers. |

| I know you're trying to help SH but the English lecturers that have been laid off from the PI will have been on quite a bit more than that British Council salary. And 90k housing allowance? - they're having a laugh! |
