I would like to know if anyone knows about the housing provided by ADEC. If you are single, do you have to share? Are you given a house or apartment? Are there kitchens, or only sitting room and bedroom?
Also, how far is the housing from the school? Are women allowed to drive? If not, what's the best solution other than taxi's to get around? |
From comments here (no direct experience) about housing for these contracts, it hasn't been shared. It may depend on the recruiter?? In Abu Dhabi, it is invariably a flat. The usual is that people are spread around the city, although employers sometimes lease a whole building of flats. Thus, your distance to your school can also vary. (not terribly helpful, I know... it's a gamble... )
If one doesn't lease/buy a car, taxis are the usual option. Some will try to arrange with a regular driver for a set pick-up. If you plan to stay for more than 2 years, I would buy a car. Be sure to have an up-to-date driving license from your home country - with at least two years before expiration. A no-claims letter from your current car insurance company can also get you a lowered insurance premium.

(and now back to the discussion of mind size... as if size matters... ) |

|
|
Hi
Family accommodation for CfBT is in apartments, unless you are in management then you get a villa and big ons even if you have no kids.
apartments are in a number of places, mainly in Muroor Road, Najda Road and Aiport road near the corniche end, if you have 2 or more kids. Familys with one child will be in Delma street, near Defense Road or in 23rd street or 29th street (Ithink) and a few re near Abu Dhabi Mall but not sure quite where.
There was talk of letting people choose theri apartment up to the value of the ones they have now but this does not seem to have come thrugh for the average PT on the ground.
Schools have huge waiting lists but the word is that heaps are leaving so put your name down at a school or 5 and see what happens as things change here by the day. Be warned some fees have gone up so the allowance for children may not be enough to pay for it.
Hope this helps, can send a personal note as too new to the forum so ask any more questins if you have them. I don't know of anyone with accommodation off island in this company, except in management. |

I have been offered a job as a pt with cfbt abu dhabi..I have just paid the registration fee for my sons school which is off the island...How likely is it that our accomodation will be off the island as my job role is cross project..How flexible are cfbt when placing staff in housing and would they bear this in mind and make an exception...
During my interview the assistant director mentioned that due to my job role it would be better to be placed near the end of the island.. I was so worried about getting my son into a good british school and now that i have i am worried we will have to travel far to drop hm if we live near the corniche... its horrible not knowing where we are going to live and also does anyone know when cfbt will be informing staff about where they will live? |

If the employer already has accomodation rented - you're not going to get a choice of where you live beyond what is already leased. Most employers don't tell you where you'll be living until you arrive - however, why don't you ask them? Explain the situation and maybe there's some wiggle room - I wouldn't hold my breathe though.
Another ray of hope is that perhaps there will be people leaving at the end of the first semester who may be located closer to your child's school - even if your first accomodation is not ideal, it may be a chance to move fairly quickly - again, discuss with HR. |
