Leeroy, I'm sorry you got that message from the media. I can tell you, I don't know many Americans that felt like that. You should know that the media loves to portray extremists and loves to divide people and get them upset.
Most of the world did express sympathy. But what do you think got press coverage? A couple dozen ignorant people celebrating. Should I be so stupid as believe that this was representative of the arab world?
I do think Afghanistan was totally justified. A "ruling" government acted in direct cooperation in supporting military action against the civilian population. This was not a rogue group operating outside the knowledge of the government.
It will be years before many new laws are tried and discarded or reformed in response to this. I don't think American's knew what to do, it was a period of mourning. I didn't see a lot of hate. A lot of how could this happen. Many people knew airline security was a joke.
But not to take action against the Taliban and Bin-laden? Of coure "we" were out "to get them" if you put it that way. Don't buy what the press tries to show you. Be smarter. |

Dear biffinbridge,
"That was the day the US and others . . . "
Hmm, was there any other "significant other", other than the UK, that is?
Regards,
John |

| John, don't forget the mighty Poles!!No seriously though,I was driving to QP and heard it on the radio.I thought it was some kind of hoax....'til I got home that is.The next day I was confronted by a class full of Qataris claiming that it was a Mossad conspiracy as no Jews were killed in the twin towers.Soon afterwards,CENTCOM moved to Qatar and the C130s and C17s started pouring in. |

Dear biffinbridge,
Ah yes - that ever so popular "conspiracy theory" about how all the Jewish workers in the Twin Towers were called the day before (9/10) and told to stay away from work the next day. Amazing how many in the Arab/Islamic world - and perhaps elsewhere - are absolutely convinced that's a "true fact". I was in Riyadh when the invasion started, but I knew it was no hoax when I heard about it. The reason? I had full confidence in the stupidity and hubris of Dubya and his gang.
Regards,
John
P.S. Let's revise that old adage to - Pride will be paid for during the fall, the fall of 2004, that is, 11/04/04 - 291 days from now, to be exact. |
