You see this is exactly how cults work, you are not supposed to know what goes on !! Rolling Eyes

Most of us don't care if the companies belong to cults or not, we are usually out before anything really happens. Most staffers of course are not even aware or linked to cults. That is not the point here. All it takes is the boss and a few well connected friends to belong to each other and as long as the money and funds keep rolling in, they don't care about you and so you don't need to care about them.

Ever thought how cults, churches, etc get their money ... from thin air ?

Anyway, this topic is not about cults but I only continued with the issue and I am not even concerned if Interac are or are not involved with the Mormons, someone else brought this up. As I said, most of us naive teachers could not care less as we are only passing by.

...especially since a link between Interac and the Mormons has yet to be proven in this thread.

P.S. Are the Mormons considered a cult or just another established religion like the Catholics, the Lutherans, Reformed Jews, etc?

It doesn't take much reading to connect the dots.

Have a look at this website. This is probably the most comprehensive website and it is very well known amongst those who dislike it because for what it is and what it uncovers. http://www.rickross.com/ I have no links to this website.

You have to use your own judgement, like I said there is a lot of money in ELT world and not all goes to the teachers.

There is a LDS church here with a few well built young men in white shirts and bikes with helmets, often cycling around, and giving English lessons. Obviously standing out in homogenous Japan. I do not know if they know about Interac. Well, I didn't even know Interac had of if had any connection to Mormons until I read this thread, so the next time I meet them, I will ask. Though I would anticipate the response.

Why would the missionaries know about any connection to Interac? In my experience, they're just the bottom of the totem pole and as ignorant to the connection as anybody else would be--probably even moreso since most missionaries don't know much about the culture they're getting tossed into or businesses there. I think it'd be ridiculous for you to assume that their response of denial would be them trying to 'cover up' the connection rather than them just honestly not knowing about it. I'm a former mormon, so you can take my word on it, or not!

Amarok,

Your response surprises me. I do not expect any type of response or have any sort of denial, if suspicions as such are to be made clear, then you should ask such details to be cleared up with Interac and the Mormon community personally. As you are a former Mormon, then how much credibility is there in what you say ? If you or anyone can represent the Mormon community and totally deny the fact that there is no connection, then please do so publically. A forum like this has little real credibility in providing such evidential proof.

I have nothing against your beliefs, or any other people's beliefs. Because it is free to believe in what you want, and it is to be respected whatever people's beliefs and ideals are. As far I am concerned, I don't care if there is any connection between the Mormons or any other community with any other organisation. However, I do know that many organisations are linked to certain beliefs, which are in Japan, and I have many friends and even students in such situations. Quite ordinary people with ordinary lives. But I also know of some who have been also exploited.

Interac being the subject of this thread and in the ELT business, is just one of those coincidences. This thread is going to get buried to the bottom of the page in a few months time.

So I am not here to take yours or any person's word for it, as I said everyone here is free to beleive what they want. And no-one needs to take any of my word for it either.

Religion, beliefs have been sensitive topics for many people, for thousands of years. Not going to wait around trying to get the answer.

Read the rest of Interac threads in this website. Plenty of people are happy with them. That is good enough.

I'm not quite sure why you're all worried about Mormons...were they preaching to you? I've found they're pretty easy to avoid, and am darn surprised that they'd be giving Japan a go.

The LDS Church is the wealthiest in the world, and own some of the most prime real estate all sorts of countries. I think we should all be happy that Interac discloses this association, rather than it all occur behind closed doors! Confused

They're an established religion; though many Christians (especially of the evangelical variety) do consider them to be cult-ish, since they add on a few extraneous texts to the Bible, which is meant to stand for itself. But if you're meaning a cult like the Moonies, then the answer is no.

Anyway, we are way off topic! Apologies to the OP!! Rolling Eyes

who cares if they are linked to the morons! I consider them a cult, but thats really irrelevant in the context of your job.

If they preached to you, or asked uncomfortable questions in the interview and make you do things you don't want to do then that would be a problem! but they don't

I personally am not convinced that they are linked to the morons but even if they are, so what?

if we all knew all the links and affiliations different companies have we couldn't work for most of them!

This will be the last post in this thread on this matter: the reason why I continued to ask about the link betwen Interac and LDS is because several posters above have claimed it but without any evidence. As I repeatedly said, whether they do or not does not bother me, but I would like to be sure whether this is true or whether people are just making stuff up. If you were a Mormon and someone anonymous claimed you were linked to Interac, what do you expect the response would be. You'd want some proof instead of hearsay and gossip.

Natsume has given the "joint the dots" URLs and that is up to you to decide its accuracy.

If people on this forum are just going to make up stories as serious as linking Mormons to Interac, then it should be from a valid and from a credible source. I have given a link to riskross.com. Yes, it may not matter to the casual passer by, or to you or me here, but Interac affects many lives in Japan. Just like Nova did. Again, it is better to be aware than to be ignorant. And then move on.

I don't understand all this talk of response? Confused Maybe not all Mormons know about the business dealings of the church. Most Cathoics probably don't knwo what is and isn't owende by their chruch and most Church of Englanders probably dont know what is and isn't owned by their church. Rolling Eyes

In this thought experiment am i supposed to be the Mormon or the one interrogating the Mormon? Confused It's difficult to understand because you ask, "if you were a Mormon..." and "what do you expect the response to be." Whose response?

WHO CARES?

Sorry to veer away from the Mormon debate...

I am sort of in the same situation, so I have a few questions!

Does interac only do the seminars till they become full, or do they only accept a certain number of applicants per month.

Currently, I want to be accepted to the JET program, but I fully realize that this is not likely, so I was thinking about applying for Interac in January. My tactic would be to apply for Interac and hope the time for application submission to job offer takes a bit of time, that way I can find if I get an interview or not with JET. Right now if I was to get the interview with JET then I would say "no thank you" to Interac, but that may change, as I may not get hired even after an interview!.

So my main question is:

1)Is it likely that Interac would still be interviewing in January. They mention, repeatedly, on their website that they have received a very high number of applicants.

2) How long would the Interac process take from online submission to acceptance of a position?

Cheers and thanks!

The main intake is for April starts so yes it will be likely they will be interviewing in Jan to replace people not wishing to renew contracts. I inteviewed in on Jan 5th of this year.

The length of time from submission to acceptance of a position can vary tremendously, and many don't even get given a location before they arrive in Japan.

But if you mean the time between submission and offer of employment then although that can vary too, it need not be long. I went from submission to receiving an offer in about 3 weeks. I filled in the form just before Xmas, got a call on Xmas day with an interviw invite, interviewed and had accepted employment about 3 days later.

Once you have an offer of employment, you can ask to postpone placement until the summer. Most positions in more urban locations get filled for April starts, but if you are not put off by rural (which is likey what you'll get on JET anyway) and you want to give JET a shot, then asking Interac to place you in the summer could give you that oppoprtunity.

Thank you! That was very informative.

Yeah, rural doesn't bother me, in fact I would prefer it for better immersion, not to mention save for money! Wink

Just thought of a few more questions:

1) What is Interac (and Eikaiwas for that matter) going to do about Shakai Hoken. If I went with Interac and began working in March they would, obviously, not be obligated to enroll me because forced Sakai Hoken for a VISA doesn't start until April.

2) However, what are all of these companies going to do once it is required for a VISA? Since you have to have enrolled in the insurance before coming to Japan they would therefore have to help pay for half of it. Wouldn't it, therefore, be better to wait for summer placement because that would be after April?

Cheers and thanks again!

Quick update:

I just got an email back from an assistant manager of Interac about the Shakai Hoken. The cost is based upon your monthly income. So for the first month, since the Japanese government has no information concerning your income the price will be 7.5-8.5% of your monthly salary. However, in the second year and after it could go up drastically. Considering Interac's pay, that isn't very good news...

ESPECIALLY since the assistant manager didn't answer my question on whether or not the company would help pay for it....

eeek....
