Personally I think its a bit shallow to initiate a condemnation of an entire nation based on one person (even if he did kill many people). Every country harbours your run-of-the-mill psycho ... what was the name of that German who dined on human love sausage while videoing his willing victim's death? We cannot write off Germany for this reason (there are so many other reasons!!! Wink )

I am glad to be British but also glad to be out of the country. Sure our government makes many mistakes - cow-towing to the US by far the biggest - and our health service sucks a large amount of c/ock and our transportation systems are out-of-date (and random) and a whole plethora of other problems that ghost are once great nation.

Personally I like to look at the positive attributes that my country has nurtured in me such as my inborn cycnicism, sarcasm and my complete inability to recognise any of my emotions let alone wanting to deal with them!

Stiff upper lip, what, what! A spot of gay tea anyone!

My question was really trying to focus on this :

In what kind of society is it possible for a GP to murder 200 patients before anyone notices ? Are people so isolated one from the other that this can happen at all ?

I am not saying "Shipman was evil so Britain is a bad place."

Anyway it has generated some discussion and some vitrioloc criticism of me. It reminds me of the attacks I hear from Yanks when I suggest that Des Moines is not the centre of the known universe.

You mean it is not???? hoowee!! Is it Baton Rouge then?
to the point, When did you, anyone reading, last speak to your neighbour?
As Scot " I am not a number" 47 points out so succintly for the second time what kind of society have we created for ourselves when we spawn, produce, create, tolerate.... people who commit crimes such as this? Do we care so little for our neighbour that we no longer even notice they are not there. Documented cases, not stories, of people being found in their flats and homes many months after they have ceased to exist and not a dicky bird is heard from neighbours or agencies concerned with theior absence or their demise. It seems to be the case of isolation being a choice of many. Let's blame the internet society for it all.
Have a nice Sunday.

The heatwave in Texas last summer caused several deaths. I guess we can blame the air conditioning repair man.

Having recently made the decision to spend my dotage in my native land, I can report that I have not yet been bumped off.
