nik_knack, when I got my avatars I just right clicked on the image on its original web page (an avatar site, for example), went down to Properties at the very bottom, then copied the url listed. It should always be there, because you ARE at a web location and it will have an URL (does that make sense?). I then pasted the URL here in my profile. It seems to work quite nicely.
In Summary:
find nice picture
right click mouse
scroll down to bottom, to Properties
Copy address in properties, or at the very least jot it down
Paste or type URL in the appropriate spot in profile page.
Bonne chance! |

Lozwich, I tried to use them, but when I signed up it required that I have a web apge. And I don't have one.
How did you do it? |

| Yaramaz, there is a similar problem at home at the moment(Turkey board) I answered but your advice seems sounder. Go help a colleague in Ataturkburg. |

| I have 2 windows open, both on the same page. One shows my little penguin/camel friendship. The other doesn't. What the H*ll is going on? |

Ok, outing myself as an ex-internetty computer teachery thingy here..
1. Go to that page what I gave you.
2. Scroll down and click where it says "I've read this page already. Take me to the hosting service now"
3. Scroll down and click "First time users click here"
4. In the box that pops up, read attentively and then "Close window"
5. Scroll down and fill out the information. The website address you must fill in is the address of this forum, not of your personal website.
6. Choose the file information (you're posting an avatar in a forum) and browse to find the file on your computer.
7. Scroll down and click "upload file"
If it works you'll be given a link, and you put that here on the cafe in your profile. You'll also get an email for future reference.
What Yaramaz said is possible too, but some web servers won't allow this. For example, when I leave an image in my Geocities space to use as my avatar here, Geocities disallows it, and I have the image for 2 views, but then get that consarned red x.
Hopefully I won't get shot for putting such detailed info that has absolutely nothing to do with teaching on this site..
Hope it helps, PM me if it doesn't..
Lozwich. |

Like my new one? I just watched the movie in my Chinese class. I like Jet Li, he lets his actions speak louder than his words. Kind of like me, except I like to do nice stuff instead of beating people up. |

There he is.
Thank you so much, lozwich.
Aren't they cute?
I feel like a real dumba$$ because of that URL address thing.
Just shows I'mnot much of a geek. |

Well, I've had a couple avatars. They were all fat guys. I chose them because I was amused by the thought of people seeing the fat guy next to my post and knowing that's the mental image people had of me.
Anyway, maybe I'll put it back on again. I got tired of having an avatar. Everyone's got one, so I went back avatarless
Nate--how much are movies at the dollar theater now? The 3-screen one near a Papa John's. I've spent hours and hours in that place. |

That was very brave, Irish Blood. Now not only do we know what town to find you in, but we know what you look like as well.
(You do look a bit like John Cusack, though.) |
