Your friend, naturegirl, could easily have been misled or is mistaken. No questions are asked because of the urgency with which she wishes to re-establish familial relations.

The visas, after all, are in Arabic and are generally accepted as valid due to a sense of trust. Misplaced trust?

"Tourist" visas are awarded rarely to group travellers, I think. A hajj visa may be interpreted as a "tourist" visa, but it isn't.

No doubt. It's just her and their child. It will have been about four months when they do get reunited. I just hope nothing goes wrong. They're good people, he's hoping to work there for a year or two, any job, just to get his foot in the door for a BC job. They were in Korea for about 6 years, but not at the uni level.

And one wonders what kind of visa the wife and child are coming in on... and will they be able to get out?

She said tourist visas.

If so, she is the very first in the world to get one under these circumstances. Laughing They may even have told her this, but... I highly doubt that is what it is. Hopefully the government doesn't jump in and start enforcing the new law which will criminalize both of them...

Pull up a chair and turn off that iPod, naturegirl.

"Maelstrom" springs to mind. Your friends are embarking into a state of affairs which may prove distressing, unsettling, whatever. The husband likely is employed illegally. No job security there. As such, his health insurance is illegal. Every three months he'll have to reapply for another illegal visa at an agency outside KSA borders. That might take a day or two or three, likely not at company expense. Will the family accompany him? Read on.

The wife with kid(s) will arrive on a questionable visa. A "spousal visa" is impossible when the wife is attached to a husband who himself is illegal. There's no such thing as a "tourist" visa. Is she Muslim on the hajj (umrah visa)?

Likely she'll also be required to exit every three months, but on dates that don't coincide with her husband's illegal visa reapplications. The children will have to tag along because they entered KSA on the same date she did. She will have illegal health insurance. The children will have illegal health insurance. If she is Korean, teaching English language is not an option in KSA.

Here we have a prime example of how a recruiter can potentially ruin not only an individual's career, but an entire family's life.

What is "BC"? Before Christ? British Columbia? British Council? Bakersfield College? Borough Council? Bolitically Correct?

Or she's just calling it a tourist visa becuase it's only 3 months. Not sure. He's been there for a couple months and is having her come over, so seems ok so far. I guess so far is the key phrase, from what I gather it's usually ok for a couple months, but people have trouble finishing their contract or getting renewed.

Wow, so glad I just turned down EdEX..I got sent a "congratulations, you've been hired" email before they had even talked with me or interviewed me! ..just 'nothing'! If something seems too easy, it's a bad sign!

I think I'll stick with going directly through the school instead of a recruiter. There's a University I'm in contact with in Oman! Hope I get hired there instead.

Naturegirl, what happened with your friend ? For any others thinking about similar procedures, I suggest that you listen carefully to the words of Fats Waller in his masterful song "The Spider and the Fly"
