We really can't be certain of your reason for using the residence permit expiration as an example. An example of what? The interpretation of the meaning of your cryptic post was that you were considering one of two things, and which would be the best course of action: leaving before the expiration date or on the date of expiration.

Just wanted to add a little fuel to the fire...
Today someone told me that visas/RPs are entered into the computer system with a time as well as a date, which means that if the RP/visa was issued at 10am and you leave on the date of expiration at 2pm that you would have technically overstayed your RP/visa and the computer system would indicate to the border agent that your document was expired.
Seems absolutely ridiculous to me that they would quibble over a few hours, especially since many people don't even know exactly when the visa/RP was issued when it's handled by an agent or school.
The same person told me that the fine for overstaying was no longer 500 a day but could be 5000 for just one day over. He said this 'new rule' was associated with the 'crackdown'.
I'm not buying either of these things but TIC, so who knows.

| With the exception of the Z visa and my entry plane ticket, my FAO's have taken care of every piece of paperwork necessary to my stay and departure. If somebody's nose gets out of joint over a few hours, they can call my FAO. It hasn't happened yet. |
