Those people you hear in London are probably not even from England. Check your stats about who lives there Wink

I've met some Yanks with utterly dreadful English. And if we are going to stereotype, then I will just wildly claim that 'Honey Boo Boo' represents a typical American family and all your relationships are the same as we see on Jerry Springer.

C'mon GotoRussia. Let's take this off the playground and play nice!

But whilst we are on the playground we should learn the difference between here and hear Laughing

But not too much by way of on-topic advice for the OP, sadly. Could be because there isn't much to offer, having spent only six or fewer months nannying in Moscow.

Rather like having just 12 months of Russian language study under one's belt, and than assuming one can speak better than other posters because some Russians understand. A logical fallacy which might be explained by Russians generally being good at figuring out what foreigners are trying to say as they mangle the language. That, and living a cossetted existence where there is no need to communicate with the range of people in Moscow, perhaps... Baseless assumptions! Great, eh?!

I fear we've scared off the OP for good, haven't heard a word from him since... ah well...the accent talk was fun.

yeah Deats, there's bad accents in both London and the USA.
lots of immigrants. Obvious to tell who was a born and bred Brit after talking to them for a while.

Fact is I'm not even American so I have no bias towards either place.

Droggy so now you presume to know my social life in Moscow and who I did or didn't communicate with? what's the saying, don't assume.

So your American accent was fake? Or are porkies being told?

Hey, what's wrong with British English?!

...well, apart from when it's super heavy, slang ridden and generally incomprehendable to anyone outside the periphery of said accent/dialect...!

There's a place for this kind of thing - it's just not an EFL or ESL classroom. But if you're a disenfranchised teenager hanging about on a streetcorner with your mates, it's quite useful to be able to speak in what's basically a code.

Ok, back now to GtR's crowing about his Excellent Russian Accent and how great his American English is (not sure why we are supposed to care, or in what way it contributes to the OP's topic, but whatever floats his boat, I guess). Sorry for the interruption.

Why are you so fixated on comparing your Russian accent to Sasha's? Are you insecure about your Russian or something? Even if your accent is 'better' than his, I'm sure his grammar and vocabulary are better than yours as you've only been studying for a about a year, so I'm sure that your grammar is far from perfect (no offense.)

Fixated? I just wanna hear this supposed "master" speak some Russian.
he's been in the country for who knows how long, probably has a babushka as a wife and salutes the dear leader Putin everytime he's on TV!!

i'm sure everybody's Russian is better than mine, who cares, as long as I can order a beer and food, ask for directions and chat up the pretty girls I'm pure gold.

I have zero understanding in what way GtR's obsession with Sasha's language abilities or his continual crowing about his own non-teaching accomplishments contribute positively to this or to any other thread. I suppose he's mistaken Dave's for a social forum. Or a grade 3 playground.
