There is a whole slew of threads about this on another board. There seems to be no clear way to do it.

I did it recently when I went home and used a notary, he dealt with the notorising and then sent or took it (not sure) to the Chinese consulate in Manchester.

They attached some kind of wax seal to it, so the copy had two stamps on it, one in English and one in Chinese, it cost me £125 for the Degree and £89 for the criminal records check.

There are various companies in the UK that can do it. Not sure about other places.

It seems to be being gradually phased in so I suggest getting it done sooner rather than later.

You have to get the criminal records check authenticated too ???

£89 for the CRC? LOL you're an idiot. You can get a notarised CRC from disclosure Scotland for free. Just send it back to them once they've sent you the CRC and they will stam p it.

Does the CRC really have to be notarised?

Any fellow Canuck had their degree authenticated recently either in Toronto or other major cities? I am bewildered at the process, please share your experiences with having this done at the consulate. I am in Toronto so do need of an agent.

*Note to future 'teachers'. Have your school notarize then authenticate your degree upon graduation.* Most schools should have a notary in Admin and can assist with apostles upon request. While YMMV, if you do your due diligence, these types of issues won't occur.

No, it doesn't for China. I used a state issued CRC. I think you can use a local CRC, but for any CRC it has to have the official stamp of the agency on it.

I've never heard of a school assisting in getting an apostile. You have to receive the notarized diploma from the school and you are on you're own from there. Schools do however give you a procedure on how to get their documents apostilled. Do what the document says to do, simple as that.

They meant the school you got your diploma from, not the school in China that you will work for.

It's not just in China, most of the ME insists on this process as well and it has to be done seperately each time you change countries.

In Saudi Arabia it's called "attesting". Attesting is done by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission. Basically you send a notarized degree document along with a form that says the SACM can get additional information. The SACM then imposes itself on you and the school registrar and asks the registrar to send a list of classes that were online and those that weren't, and some of the schools they call say "flake off please, we are a major research institution leave us alone". If and when a school does provide the list, any course that says online on it, disqualifies your degree from attestation. Soon that will not be a problem anymore, with the world oil prices, and their impact on the Middle East, eventually nobody is going to want to go to Saudi Arabia anymore anyway. Laughing

That's what I meant too, but I forgot to add that I was talking about US schools, not the schools in other countries so ......... . I'm pretty sure you get an explanation on how to do it on the school's registrar website. The registrar could send the notarized document to the next necessary official wherever, but remember it would have to have a return envelope or a FEDEX or UPS form with an account number on it. Are US schools going to get involved in that? No, they just send it back to you. You are then on your own in dealing with the rest. It's not difficult, it's just time consuming and somewhat expensive if you want to get it done in a timely manner. This is why anyone kind of interested in looking at China, should get the diploma authentication done now where you can handle it using inexpensive mail.
