What I have noticed is that ALL russian women (and perhaps ALL women) have problems (financial, personal, drunken ex etc etc) - add those, and any relationship starts to be difficult.

I know of a marriage that worked. A lovely couple in Edinburgh that I met in the consulate. I talked to them while we were waiting in the queue, but I got the impression they were both exceptional characters.

Yes, I'd agree with you in saying all women have problems, as do all men. Life is never free from turbulence, and the problems that are shared in a monocultural relationship are often enough to break it down. A point picked up on by yourself and Zaneth is that in Russia, these problems and differences are compounded by the extra stresses of day-to-day life and constantly dealing with cultural differences.

The phrase I hear most often from foreigners departing after a long term stay is "I've had enough". People that I've known leaving Russia haven't been moving to greener pastures, they were just getting out of the RF. There are doubtless plenty of people who settle here for good, but I'd question anyone's sanity if they opted to move here from the West and blew up their escape bridge behind them.

well Bobs, it is up to how you feel. If you want to stay with this woman with her son, go for it. If you can imagine staying with her for many more years, and if she doesn`t mind living in the UK, it might work.
