If my facetious post offended anyone, I truly apologize.
It was a rather trollish thing to do on my part.
I have nothing but respect for those people.

You mean...
you mean... you don't really think I'm a troll???
Sigh.

There are some who are trolls. And there are some that I am sure are just carrying out some kind of experiment. We could all be just the white mice!!
The trolls don't really cause much trouble, they normally just post a few contentious items publicly and then get a laugh out of it. What is worrying is people who get banned, and then keep coming back and back again, with little effort to hide their identity, and then post threatening or insulting messages both publicly ( there were some posts here that could have led to serious legal action for libel which have been removed), and privately through PMs. How can we keep this kind of poster out? Everyone is entitled to a little fun, but some of the stuff is just too far into the realm of social misfit and psycho. |

LoonRavin': You'll be happy to know that I'm also part Indian. See how much we have in common? When you eat buffalo meat, do you scrape the fur off first? Although my Osage family sometimes didn't, I always did. And how about the Native American Festival in Gallup: Ever been invited? I was. Played drums there. Dull, but consistent meter by the American tribes (no, not "Nations"); far better by visiting remnants of Aztecs. Ever hunt deer in the Smokies with Cherokees? I have. I could tick off a list of things ---- and I'm only 1/16th Indian. But one thing, Loon, I've never known a real Indian anywhere in the country ---- and I do know Indians all over the country ---- who ever referred to him/herself as anything but ..... an "Indian." And they pronounce it, almost universally, "Indan." "Native Americans" are for Italians trying to get gaming rights.

Anyway, back to business:
| Quote: |
| A court (thread) where troll and troll accusers plead their cases then a verdict is given; quite like Judge Judy but a little less tacky. The troll, if found guilty, would then be removed by the powers that be. |
Why not The accuser presents his case and the accused presents theirs. No one else can post - only vote.
Let's see... 35% yes, 53% no, 10% unsure. Since this is being tallied in a server in the US that means we can imply that the "usures" tried to vote "yes" but couldn't and at least 5% ot those who voted "no" probably thought they had read "yes" and voted for the wrong item. Then there's the missing 2% due to the computer failure who probalby voted "yes". There. That's a clear win of 55% yes, 45% no. - U.S. style. |

Progress Report:
After digging through a few spellbooks in the dark recesses of the lower levels of my library I happened upon two interesting spells that when cast together should implement a karma solution in my own time-space.
Here's how it will work:
Users will be able to rate individual posts of other users. The resulting rating will give a point value, and the total of all points from all a user's posts will give a point, or karma rating. Some users or groups of users will have a rating multiplier, which means that moderators, for example, have votes that count as 5 or maybe even 10 times that of a normal user. As a user's points/karma increase, that poster is put in progressively higher "groups" who will have progressively higher point multipliers. Conversely, users whose input is not valued by the community would be placed in groups where their points multiplier values would be progressivley lower and lower and lower (maybe even exponentially)
Expected Results:
In the beginning of such a system moderator votes would guide the forum into establishing who among the posters submit contributions in line with the values of the website and from there, when there are enough regular users the community would police itself. A troll could register as many times as he wanted but he would just be unable to keep up because one "valued contibutor" would cancel out 10 or even 100 of his usernames' votes.
The second spell is an "ignore" list where users could just completely ignore certain users.
How would such spells work if cast in this time-space, I wonder? |

What the hell. Share and share alike, eh?
I love the online TEFL community so much I'll provide links to allow anyone with a phpbb forum like this one to implement some kind of point system like I was talking about. No bogarting code that's free for all.
Webmasters:
The first two links are different flavors of the same "spell". The second link is for a BID list (Buddies Ignore Disallow). It allows users to cvompletely ignore other users. Real Cool. If old father christmas is listening in on this forum he'll give these to Dave for christmas. If any TEFL webmasters have installation questions feel free to contact me.
