Hello hubei_canuk,
Now, don't you agree that in that first post - "Hello Roger..." you actually ANSWERED me? That post of mine, it was deleted, at least temporarily, but today I found it again.
Would you agree with me that in your reply you come across as someone not utterly on friendly terms with Owen Buckland?
OF course, I WON'T HOLD THAT AGAINST YOU. But it seems to me to be contrasting starkly with the post in which you show your gratitude to Owen for having found a job for you in JINGMEN.
"ET TU BRUTE?" Hubei_Canuk, cut such remarks out of your posts, ou bien fiche-le camps, ou fiche-moi la paix! That's what I call boorish, churlish, uncouth! |
========
I'm running out of air here and i want o go do a movie and miiu but i'll try one more.
Hey, i think, i've tried in many ways to say "life is not simple".You can be mad and glad, or sad and gald and at the same time, or so mony other multiple combinations. When people are playing "for and against" they try to deny the multiplicity of experience.
...
So one post tells you i am not utterly on friendly experience with Owen and another post tells you i express my gratitude to Owen for having found me a job in Jingmen.
Question: where's the contradiction?
We're talking about long term involbvement in realtionships.
We can maximize the effectiveness of our lives (and writing) by a process of differentiation and not cutting things into absolutes.
For instance, i used to work for a major canadian corporation. From one perspective i could hate it, from another i could love it. From one perspective they abused me, from another they gave me abundant success and opportunity.
How long would i have lasted and what would i have if i threw a fit everytime i didn't like something that happened?
..
"Ren" - a chinese character meaning "Endure" or "Patience". It is hung in martial art studios the world over.
+++++++++++++
"Et Tu Brute" oh no! i'm not cutting out my words, not if they seem appropriate. Not when i rely on my unconscious to give me "Le Mot Juste".
It seemed appropriate: Someone i didn't expect to have that common perception of me.
No, no I protest! I don't wish to be KING!!
..
But then they went on to murder Cinna the Poet for his bad verses.
I am sorry my verses are bad. I will have to accept being torn to pieces by the crowd. Mal vu, toute est perdu!
...
But if you say i doesn't fit you, i will accept that. |

There is no right and wrong when ooe is willing to be wrong to be right. however we all make mistakes.
That is, except for those of us who never make mistakes and so of course spend a lot of time feeling insulted.
...
You are trying hard to understand my philosophy CS but i still can't even give you a "C" grade.
Perhaps the problem is you feel someone ambivalent? On the one hand you feel my writing is "raving loony, pretentious" but on but on the other hand you feel drawn to read it.
..
Somewhat like a moth to the flame.
..
Thank-you anyway for giving me the opportunity to practice the art of repartee. |

++++++Start Movie Review Parable +++++++++++
I just saw Cube2. (chinese pirate edition 1 Yuan rental)
I liked it and i didn't like it. The ideas were improved but they lacked "je ne sais pas."
I thought Cube(1) was better but there were a lot of improvements in Cube(2) that made Cube(1) seem old and creaky.
So in another way Cube 2 was better.
It cerainly was slicker. but maybe no-slick cube (1) is more genuine.
..
Whatever is good or bad it's worth continuing! I certainly will see Cube 3 Cube4 and Cube 5 when they come out.
+++++++++++++ end movie review parable ++++++++++++
From the files of the self-contradictory canuk!
......
Hmmm Do you think "China" is some kind of Cube(0) invented by the CIA and used as some kind of laboratory testing ground? For certain this cannot be the real thing and is some kind of hologram. For certain, because nothing is real here.
Oh, i forgot my old joke!: "Nothing is real in China except the bullet they use to execute you."
..................
Hmmm. i just suddenly realized "Et Tu Brute!" (from Julius Caesar meaning "And you too Brutus?" ) is was the "personal attack" you were talking about Roger. You see how since we live all in different parallel universes I need to have things spelled out for me.
Either that or just call me dumb. But please I need more explication with those kinds of subjects.
..
Well from my POV, it is surprising how one would consider this "personal" or even an "attack". If someone said this to me. i might say "Yes! Also me".. or "No, sorry you don't understand" and begin to explicate.
But i wouldn't know what to take offence at. What is the offense about? maybe there is some misunderstanding here?
...
Well, i will beat this dead horse to further death a little later. I believe the thing needs a going over.
ps. Roger, I don't understand the French you said as I am not French but the French i used and the Latin is from common Canadian English Public School Education. Is this the source of the contention? |

Klassy nice avatar. I think the monsewer's answer confirmed that he is our belated degreeless escapee from where he stood people up I Yangshuo
But Klassy, you broke the unwritten rule. It is not allowed to have two posts in a row without monsewer gordon first "writing" many posts of meaningless drivel. Is it possible to double talk when you are incapable of rationally talking in the first place? |

I really don't like to take part in flame wars, but good God, man, must you post 4 huge posts in a row? It's to the point where I completely skip everything you write. Nor can understand what your points are, who you're writing it to, and where you leave off and come back again. A paragraph normally has a statement, a follow up body, and then a conclusion. |

Hubei_canuk,
I own up to having slipped up with your "French" quote ("Et tu, Brute!"). And yes, my own mistake did work me up - I thought it was a weird French phrase and did not think it might be pseudo-Latin. The Latin original reads "Et tu, BrutUS?", which is so close to a poor French expression meaning "and you, brute?".
Sorry for this mistake, and I do not see why you need to know my French answer to a misunderstood quote from you. |

Aha! so it was a misunderstanding.
I'm sorry roger, you must be reading a simplified version of Julius Caesar. I copy the full quote from an online script anthology. True we call him Brutus but Caesar spoke Latin and addressed Brutus in the dative. (as rendered by Shakespeare).
"Et tu, Brute! Then fall, Caesar"

You ask Why do i want to know the French meaning? First i am an intellectual (it is a rare thing, burt it means i like to study everything and want to know everything).
Second, i'd now like to study Eurpoean languages: French, German and Spanish.
But i don't need to know it. you can pm me if it's dirty though.
..
So is that it? Have i answered you satisfactorily?
Or at least answered you?
..
Owen mentioned something about you writing for the SCMP. I'd be interested in seeing anything done by you. I lived in HK off and on many many times. It's maybe my most favorite city in he world. I am also an ardent hiker and history buff. There are many historical sites in HK. But most of all, HK is just such a wonderful mix and clash of world culture as well as being a beautiful place. |

Seth, i try to write to everybody, the universal reader as it wereas well as whomever sparks the idea.
...
Do you want me to aplologize for having to much to say? I haven't even really begun. It's hard to keep up with all the people that are demanding answers from me...
I do appreciate feedback to know if my writing is unclear, but i also appreciate it if you are more specific. sometimes, i do admit i think i have communicateded , only to discover that i have not explicated something in deatial and it can not be understood.
So i will remember your complaint and keep an eye out to be clear in my communication.
However, probably i have with several others is long and complicated so probably is hard to follow.
Most of it is about freedom of speech and what genuinely constitutes open debate. It seems to me that in this small debating group there are a few people who are used to promoting their ideas by a kind of power of group manipulation than by intellectual honesty. I say that looking at the number of personal attacks being made on me as well as the character slurs and the attempts to invade my personal security. They seem very ferocious and unremittant.
..
Anyway bottom line: don't read my posts if you don't want to .
Make yourself happy.
Aren't you the fellow who's leaving china? |
