Noonlite -
I reckon you've made the right choice. From my perspective, Oman is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with some of the nicest 'locals' you're ever likely to come across. I taught out in the desert there for a year over 25 years ago and have been back several times in recent years. I even drove from Dubai to Salalah and back again a couple of years ago. A great experience.
I was interviewed by people from SQU at the TESOL-Arabia conference in 2004 and felt an immediate empathy with the interviewers - and I can't really say that about any of the other interviews I had.
I was, in fact, offered a job at SQU but, in the end - much to my regret - I had to turn it down. As you are aware, money at SQU is pretty lousy - and at the moment, because of my family committments, I'm in mercenary mode!!
So I'm now far from the desert I love (tropical green & rain!!!) but I respect you for for following your gut-instincts and wish you the best of luck.
