I see you're marketing the "lost soul seeking enlightenment" angle.
"One day, young graduate, all this can be yours ... "
I personally can't complain about physical conditions. It's the organizational ones in working with a keystone cops governmental organization that ...aw, skip it.
And the pay isn't so great.
Time to move on I guess. |

Merlin, are you part of the same system? Sounds like it, keystone cops and all...
MR-nothing against surfers per se, it's more the whole moronic 'dude' subculture that comes with it, and the fact that most surfers that have washed up on these shores are here to surf, teaching comes a distant second. A middle-aged surfer would be fine, as long as he comes with your recommendation. A teacher who surfs- well this would be the spot for that - who cares what a teacher does in his or her free time? Have him to send his resume to the address that I'm going to pm you.
Thanks |

Same system?
Proably not in the sense you intended when you asked.
But systems in general seem to follow certain trends, archetypes if you will
http://www.systems-thinking.org/index.htm
When they don't work they tend to not work in similar ways for similar reasons.
Here's a nice little diagram of the idea.
http://www.systems-thinking.org/theWay/theWay.htm
Surfers:
When I was at UH Manoa I had a professor come in every morning in swimming trunks and flipflops with sand in his hair, ears, etc. If anything it made him a more relaxed, clear-headed and ready to begin the day. But maybe that's a difference between the california surfer who just kinda paddles about and the North Shore surfer, who often places his life in the hands of oceanic forces. |

| I've got to say that working in the Libyan desert is as close as I've been to a 'Heart of Darkness' experience.Thankfully I've only got 65 days to do and I'm out for good.65 days of solitary confinement living in third world conditions is a tough prospect for anyone. The thing is,the company and local teachers could make your life a whole lot better but choose not to.One trick is to shaft you with all the teaching hours god can send and then go on leave themselves.Another is to blame the native speaker for anything that goes wrong.Over time this creates a real feeling of resentment that festers into many things including racism.I'm returning to Europe in August before my current post does any long term damage.Fortunately for me,I'm aware of what is happening I just feel sorry for those for whom it is too late.I'll never work in the Middle East again as it's a place where racism is institutional and religious tolerance is non-existant;it's just oppressive. |
