| how have you changed? |
1. I appreciate and respect my mother more for even the smallest things she does for me. She use to have a real serious phobia of computers (couldn't even look at them without having a panic attack). When I left, I gave her my computer and I told her she must use this to keep in touch with me. After about six months, my mother overcame her fear of computers. Now I get emails from her that brighten my days and make me laugh. We are able to exchange pictures and that's fun.
2. I've developed more self-confidence.
3. I've learned that no matter what I do, there will be people who hate me and love me (based on my race/gender). There's not much I can do about that. Some people are so narrow minded that you can't get any new information through that closed passageway to nowhere important anyway. Towards such people, it's not necessary that I be very concerned or polite.
4. I've learned that cultural chauvinism is widespread throughout the world and that to some Asians I am considered a "monkey."
5. I've learned that xenophobia is evil |
