The URL I pasted above has all the information you need to obtain apostille service in England and central Europe, Canada, the USA and several other countries.

Here it is again:

I am not trying to be picky but Canada is not party to the Hague Convention agreement so it is the "legalization" process and not referred to as Apostille. It became a little more complicated than it used to be, about 2 years ago and now slightly more time and energy to accomplish, but I think a fee of $500.00 USD is way over the top if that's what they charge.

III: Fees:

$200 for Apostille
$100 for Notary certification (Required for notarized documents)
$500 for Embassy Legalization (Includes Secretary of state and notary and certification)

True, but the authentication is equivalent, and so the URL I included addresses how to get it done.

I was responding to the Brits inquiry. Wink

Indeed. You need to take the originals and notarized copies to a Mexican Embassy/Consulate for 'legalization'.

Im not advertising here, but post a quote from the URL I have called attention to. It reads:

An Apostille Seal is a document authentication for international use in all the nations that have signed the Hague Convention.

If the country where you intend to use the documents is not part of the Hague Convention; an Embassy Legalization is required.

Apostilla.com provides you the Apostille and Embassy Legalization service that you need for your documents in order to be recognized in the country in which you are seeking legalization.

So this group handles both apostille and Embassy Legalization services.

Hope the information is of some help.

The following link contains good information for the procedure and price for Canadians needing to get documents legalized for use in Mexico.

I would be interested to know how they went about it as a fellow Brit.

Yes, many people. Its done in somewhere misteriously called "the home office". I can get you details on Monday.[/quote]

Thanks a million MELEE.
Wow, the Home Office. I will feel very important telling someone I am going to the Home Office.

The link to the Mexican Consular Services in Canada was very helpful, but I'm still a little confused about FM3s. As far as I can see, the school you work for gets the ball rolling to get you an FM3 (after you show them your "apostillized" or "legallized" diplomas). However, what if you're crossing the border (and the U.S. border also) with a van load of furniture and stuff to live in Mexico - and you do not yet have an FM3? Has anyone successfully applied for and received an FM3 for Mexico, in their home country? Can anyone think of any other proof I can show to the U.S. border people that I am, in fact, not wanting to move into the States, but moving to Mexico for a job? I realize that it should come from my employer but they seem to be reluctant to tell me about FM3s until I'm already there!

Johnny, What are you bringing to Mexico in the way of household goods? What will you be driving? I can help you better if I know more about your plan of attack. The FM3's come in different categories but I don't think you should worry about that at this stage. More later after I know your situation.

Ilovebtd,

(I've been wondering who or what is btd?)

Okay, I just talked to our UK information guardian, and you should go or post your degree to the Foriegn and Common Wealth Office in London for your apostille. If you are in the London area, they will do the apostille while you wait. If you post it, allow two weeks for the whole process.

Hi MELEE

BDT are my cats. Brandy, Dandy and Toto. Unfortunately, Dandy died about three months after I arrived in Korea. Sad

Thanks for the info. I live just outside London so a trip to the Foreign and Commonwealth office would be no problem.

Do they do the apostille for free?

How do you pronounce that? Is it like "apostle" in the Bible?

Thanks a million

Ilovebdt1

P.S Can I borrow your dog? He/She is adorable Very Happy

I was told by the Secretary of State's office in Colorado that apostille was pronounced with the emphasis on 'stille', o is a longish o; the i is a long e (like free); and the e is silent. That probably doesn't help much, but it is not like apostle in the bible.

Yeah, you should pronounce it as if it were French, like Bastille. It probably is a French word.

I agree with it being French -- part of the apostille that got attached was actually in French.
