| The plucking of nose hairs is a good one, too. You can almost feel it. |

| Seeing men shaving with portable electric razors in their cars is not so bad, but on the train, with whiskers flying, is truly revolting. The Japanese women sitting by this guy did not look pleased. |

At about 5 a.m. in a Tokyo / Chiba suburb near some apartments on a Saturday morning, I see a man & woman standing on the sidewalk, him stading in front of her. She lifts up her arms & smiles, letting him grope her. Guess a kiss goodbye wasn't enough.
Way up in a rural town, a drama performance finished in the city's gymnasium, & everyone was driving home. An older guy had parked his car in the middle of a narrow road to pee, & no cars could pass around him. I had recently arrived in Japan, & that was the first time I saw someone take a leak in public like that, so it was a surprise. Now it doesn't surprise me a bit, & some of the earlier posts are far worse. Pools of vomit on the train platform are still disgusting, though. |

About 5 years ago I was in a train station minding my own business. Along comes a Japanese young lady ( I assume she was japanese) talking on her cell phone apparently making arrangements to meet someone and needed to get on the right platform.
So she comes over to ME and asks ME in Japanese:
"Does the train that stops at this platform stop at Nagase station?"
I was a little surprised but I replied in Japanese:
"No it doesn't, you need to get the train on that other platform over there"
She said thank you and then explained to the person on the other line that she now understood.
I have no idea whatsoever why she chose ME out of a station with Japanese people all around. I don't look remotely Japanese and there is nothing about me to suggest that I can speak Japanese.
I am still puzzled as to why she asked ME and asked me in Japanese when there were Japanese people around.
(she didn't appear to be intoxicated, her speech seemed quite normal)
Hmmmmm |
