Ooops. That was actually a mallard--- a canard.

It looked a lot like one of prof's posts about salary, come to think of it.

Just noticed this.
it seems no one has asked the obvious question.
(drum roll please)
What was a mallard doing in your pyjamas?

Well, according to Wikipedia, you're all wrong.

Birdwatching or birding is the observation and study of birds. The term birding is of American origin; birdwatching is the more commonly used word in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Most birders or birdwatchers pursue this activity for recreational or social reasons, unlike ornithologists, who are engaged in the formal scientific study of birds. Ornithologists can, however, study birds using the same methods as birders.

However, I enjoy birdwatching when I'm in old Blighty. Never tried birding.

Mr. Purvis, let me say that the bird in question was was more likely a canary than a mallard. One gander would have convinced us that calling that bird a mallard was definitely a canard, even before you shot it. After all, a mallard would have ducked.

Sorry, I'm out of puns now. I don't have a milliard of the damn things.

I was speaking more of the folks one here who dissect another post and correct the tiniest little things. However overall, it depends on the spirit of it I think. If it's to help someone fine, but it's kind of obvious when the intent is not positive. Take care vikdk Wink

you know the funny thing about this subject is that I actualy am a birdwatcher - and occasionaly take foreign birdwatchers/birders (if they're after rare species, we (in the UK) call them twitchers) on weekend birding tours - and help others arrange bird watching holidays in the West of China. So in the spirit of Nathans "good spirit" - if there are any birdwatchers brousing this thread and want to swop some China birwatching chat - so please give me a PM.

I think bird watching is likely a form of meditation for some or most who do it. Provides a good focus point, americans and most westerners don't focus enough on any one thing to the exclusion of all else enough for it to do them much good.

yes its far more relaxing that having a mallard down your pants! By the way - all the protruding foliage in that type of habitat makes a 100% certain species identification very difficult Exclamation

Vik, Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking your familiarity with the term most likely stems from the fact that your yourself have so often been referred to as one? Wink I'm gonna let you off the hook here tonight, I'm off to bed.

Zhu hao,

Shawn
