Well, if he's reading this, then I'd suggest that graphically speaking, the flashing banner ad would look better above the top menu.

I wish the flashing banner ad would go entirely. It doesn't fit anymore with the new menu. And after being a web designer for some considerable time, I'm firmly of the opinion that the menu should be at the very top, especially since it goes all the way across where the ad is in the middle. The long menu and the ad in the middle makes a triangle, which draws your eyes up and away from the forum rather than down the page.

but hey, its his website, I guess.

Yes, it is good to know we're being heard. I like this new smaller banner a lot, its a nice compromise and looks good.

I concur, maybe shrink the top banner down 23% - 33% as well?

Perhaps Dave could put up a poll and ask his members to choose the best layout?

Firefox and adblock plus will get rid of the flashing banner with no problem.

It is a sign Dave is doing something wrong that he persuaded me to use it in the first place; I was never annoyed enough by the ads in the last six years to bother.

Is it really that bad? It's a great improvement on what was there before.

If you ask me, I'd go for a 24.7% shrinkage.

Dave, the current setup looks good...not hard on the eyes, and it's not slowing down the pageload too much.
