Veralynn
British Council either provide accommodation or give cash - prices are really tumbling in Dubai and you can find for less than 90 and pocket the rest.

I agree with Veralynn on this one... from PI to the BC would be a big step down in pay and benefits - not to mention that you need to have the right passport to even have a chance.

And bae? only men need apply...

Just out of curiosity... does this suggest that they kept the female teachers? Or were there mostly men? I'm wondering if they kept the women because they are on a spousal visa and thus they save paying benefits on local hires. It would seem odd because this program has always seemed to have plenty of funding.

Can't comment on gender choice in dismissals. Originally there were only men teachers, but all changed. Some women on spousal contracts but others on their own outright. Of course you are right about plenty of funding with the backing of 5 major oild companies. It seems to be madness, or just plain ego at work.

This all sounds sickeningly similar to another "institute" I used to know in Abu Dhabi.
Tell me one thing...does Zafar or that other chump from Utah have anything to do with this place?

There are many women at the Pi on their own sponsorship both in foundation and the degree programs. In fact there are very few on spouse contracts. In total there are about 10 female lecturers in foundation.

SD Boy, one should be careful about mentioning names, particularly if there is any negative connotation. However, to answer your question. No.

Why, whoever said anything negative about the Big Zed?
The fact that he was banished from TESOL Arabia is a testament to his astuteness!

By the way, I thought the chump from Utah was working there.

My husband has an interview with PI in a couple of weeks. It seems to me that if they fly him there and pay for his hotel, they must be seriously considering him. How long will it take to find out if he got the job? He doesn't teach English, but this forum has the best information. Thanks for your help!

They are seriously considering him ameena but it could take a long, long time to get any news after the interview. Good luck to him.

What does this have to do with jobs teaching English at PI? I doubt that this institute would hire a TEFL teacher for this position. Laughing
