That's so true, although the grammar is easy, men and women do use different words!
I think one thing Westerners have to get used to is sentence structure, i.e. the verb at the end of the sentence!
Japanese is a language that at first seems really easy, but there seem to be many "hidden" meanings and words, as PaulH has mentioned.
One thing I think is interesting is, that when you go about learning a language BEFORE going to a country, you tend to learn by the book and you tend to speak more formally than necessary. But when you actually arrive there you see the people speaking more informally! Is this the same for Japan? |

Yep - I think it is. If I walked around all day here speaking the level of Japanese I was taught in high school I'd sound very formal or serious. |
